Read this one last night and really liked it. (view spoiler)[Taniel meeting Ka-Poel for the first time was a nice scene to read. Also, I for whatever reason had it in my brain that Boneeyes were mute, so I was a little surprised to read that Ka-Poel being unable to speak was odd even for a Boneeye. Maybe that was covered in the main season, but I don't remember it. I also thought that this story made the whole "Taniel leaving his fiance for a couple of years of trouncing around in a war that doesn't even involve Adro" thing to be far more believable. I thought that was odd in the main trilogy, but decided to just accept it at face value.
Reading this story made that decision make a lot more sense. (hide spoiler)]

So in a nutshell, this was yet another solid addition to the Powder Mage canon.

I read it yesterday and really liked it as well. I think this was the first time I noted that (view spoiler)[ Ka-Poel was actually Dinyze which isn't notable as far as the first trilogy, but definitely key for the second! (hide spoiler)]

also saw book 3 has a tentative release date of Nov 26 2019.

Awesome to hear there's a release date to conclude the second trilogy. I haven't started it, simply because I didn't want to start yet another unfinished series.

Pretty fresh in my mind right now, outside chance I reread the first two books before the third one comes out.
