What are your favourite endings to series that the authors just got it exactly right? The books where everything came together right at the end, the books that left you in tears, the books you thought for days and weeks (and maybe months) after finishing.

*Please remember that it is not necessary to share details as to why you chose the books you did, but if you do explain what you loved about that last and final installment, PLEASE MAKE SURE TO MARK SPOILERS. It's in the group rules so it should be obvious, but for a thread like this, it is really important. We don't want to ruin a series someone hasn't finished yet.

Shae | 372 comments 1. The Wheel of Osheim (The Red Queens War #3 - Mark Lawrence)
2. The Core (Demon Cycle #5 - Peter V. Brett)
3. Goldenhand (Abhorsen #5 - Garth Nix)

For me, all these series had satisfying conclusions - enough threads resolved and tied off nicely, with a few left loose for possible spin offs :-)

Bill | 2150 comments 1. A Memory of Light by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson - Wheel of Time. Just a super epic finish to a great series.
2. The Price of Faith by Rob J. Hayes - The Ties That Bind

Have to think on the third.

1. The Crippled God - Malazan Book of the Fallen. It seemed like it was going to be impossible to wrap up this series with all the storylines and the huge cast of characters, but Erikson never disappoints.

2. The Autumn Republic - Powder Mage. Every book of this series was fantastic and I loved how it all came together at the end.

3. Chains of the Heretic - Bloodsounder's Arc. Yes, this series again. I really haven't read all that many series to the end so I have a small pool to choose from, but this book definitely deserves to be here. Each book in this series built and improved on the previous one.

1. The Crippled God - OMG.

From here it gets really hard. I'll just throw out a few I cannot choose between.

The Stone Sky
Last Argument of Kings
Heir of Novron
The Ace of Skulls
A Memory of Light
The Price of Spring

All worthy.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 1578 comments This one is hard. I will list three and a few honorable mentions.
These aren't really in order.

Heir of Novron by Michael J Sullivan
Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
Undivided by Neal Shusterman

And some honorable mentions: Saint Odd by Dean Koontz, The Last Guardian by Eoin Colfer, The Autumn Republic by Brian McClellan, Champion by Marie Lu, Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo.

Petrik (petrikleo) | 1546 comments 1. Wrath by John Gwynne
2. Assassin's Fate by Robin Hobb

Can't choose
-The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
-Last Argument of Kings by Joe Abercrombie
-City of Miracles by Robert Jackson Bennett
-Morning Star by Pierce Brown
-Chains of Heretics by Jeff Salyards
-Heir of Novron by Michael J. Sullivan

Let's see if The Crippled God or Memory of Light will be able to replace one of these.

Goddamn. I forgot to put Chains of Heretics. That trilogy was so satisfying to read. Criminally underrated too

TS Chan (tschan) | 159 comments This is super hard. Today, my top three has gotta be:

Heir of Novron - Michael J Sullivan
Hero of Ages - Brandon Sanderson
The Crippled God - Steven Erikson

Concluding books which I also loved and are in my favorites shelf:

Wrath - John Gwynne
King of Assassins - RJ Barker
City of Miracles - Robert Jackson Bennett
The Stone Sky - NK Jemisin
Tyrant's Throne - Sebastian de Castell
A Darkness at Sethanon - Raymond E Feist
Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows - JK Rowling

I haven't finished Remembrance of Earth's Past yet, will see if Death's End becomes one of the above.

Haha I'm at the point where I'm trying to see if I can get this series onto every top three list.

Yay!

Rob (nefariasbredd) | 2418 comments To date for me, I have to agree with many of the above here. A list hope changes over time, though tough to top.

Crippled God - absolute #1!
Hero of Ages
Last Argument of Kings

message 21: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments I’ll back Jenna on Chains of Heretics. Salyards did a great job of expanding the world and story without losing the focus.

1. City of Miracles - Divine Cities
2. The Ace of Skulls - Tales of the Ketty Jay
3. Last Argument of Kings - First Law

Petrik (petrikleo) | 1546 comments So glad to see so many love for Last Argument of Kings here. I thought I was the odd one for loving that conclusion.

It's been two years since I read the first trilogy. A reread is definitely in order!
