Nikki ~ The Nocturnal Bookworm (nyxreadsstuff) Welcome to your discussion and recommendation sharing thread for Q4 of 2018

As a reminder, you will be partners from October 1st - December 31st.

~Pick 2-5 recommendations for your partner each month and from those selections they will read at least one. You will do the same from their selections for you.

~Share your thoughts either as you read or when you finish with your partner. Whichever works better for you.

~For your recommendations I encourage you to stick to books that you have either rated 3 or more stars or are by an author that you have read and rated a book they wrote 3 or more stars.

~It is up to the two of you if you want your curator to pick only from your tbr or if you are fine with them not sticking to a shelf.

Hi Audrey! I'm cool with you recommending books not on my tbr. I look forward to doing this curator challenge with you!

Hi Audrey! I want to tell you a bit about myself. I am kindergarten teacher living in Salt Lake City (but not Mormom, lol!). My husband is an urban farmer and I have one 19 year old daughter who is still at home. I love books and am willing to give most anything a try and it is rare for me to dislike a book enough to not finish it. I have a 45 min. each way commute, so audio books save my sanity! (Though I do still love to curl up with a good old-fashioned paper book!) I also love to crochet and I enjoy doing crossfit - though I am by no means awesome at it!

I will make up a list for October for you this weekend! This is my first challenge of this sort and I am really looking forward to it!

Alrighty - so here's round 1 of recommendations!

Since it's October, I'm going to start with a spooky book
NOS4A2. One of my book clubs read this for September and it was a great story. I don't know if you like audio books, but this one on audio is pretty good.

Next I think The Night Circus. I just adored the atmosphere of this novel. I think I heard they are making a movie of this book and I think it would make a fantastic movie!

Next I'll choose Beartown. I am blown away with how amazing Backman is writing about human nature. And if you like this one - the sequel is maybe even better.

Next up I will go with a YA book that I loved this year
The Girl Who Drank the Moon. The writing in this book is just beautiful and the story is charming as well.

Last up I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest a poetry book. I know poetry isn't everyone's bag and even for people who do like poetry, it can be a rather personal taste buuuut I'm going to suggest Ariel because it is on your want-to-read list and I love Plath.

Audrey (audjvoss12) | 9 comments Wow, thank you. Okay, about me: I work in mental health. I also have a 45 min commute each way, so audio is good for me too. I have an almost 4yo son. We live with my parents. I like cooking and working out. I also speak French. Okay, let me make your list.

Audrey (audjvoss12) | 9 comments I just started listening to the NOS one while I commute to/from work, and so far, it’s SO creepy! Eleanor Oliphant was an awesome audiobook. Are you listening or reading?

I’m listening to it. I really like the narrator.

Audrey (audjvoss12) | 9 comments Yeah, she's great. Especially when she does her mother and Raymond.

I really loved Eleanor Oliphant! The word I keep wanting to use is charming , but that doesn't quite capture it. There is too much of a dark side for charming. I love how the story about her mother develops. Great pick!

Alrighty, here are my recommendations for November.

The Bear and the Nightingale - This is the first book in a trilogy (only the first 2 books are out). I just love books with an awesome female MC.

Between the World and Me - I listened to this one and it's read by the author. I recommend this one on audio. I was mesmerized.

The Song of Achilles I adore this author. I am sad that she only has two books out. The prose is just beautiful and I love Greek myths.

V for Vendetta - the GN that spawned one of my favorite movies.

Also, I see that you read a lot of children's books and so do I because I am a kindergarten teacher :) So I will give you one recommendation for a picture book too. My kinders love the Knuffle Bunny books - there are 3. Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale (and p.s. you find out in book 2 that it is pronounced kuh-nuffle bunny).

December List

You - I read this recently for another book club. It is super creepy.

American Gods - I just love Gaiman! This is one of my favs.

There There - One of the best books I have read this year in the literary fiction genre.

The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women - The fact that this book is a true story is horrifying.
