Join us, in the Journey to Halloween Town!

Note: This is NOT the place to ask questions about the game. This is purely a social hangout. Questions about the game should be asked in the Captains group by the Captains and Co-Captains.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Wheels are sooo cool.

I'm three days ahead of schedule BUT it is the first breather I had in the past 3 weeks, so I'm using it while it lasts :o)

message 5: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13647 comments Mod
Definitely always take advantage of those breathers :-)
And the wheels are looking great for sure! I'm going to have to start hoarding covers to fit the colours haha.

The wheels look amazing! Looking forward to getting started. Might have to do the same and hoard some useful colours.

message 7: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments ahahahaha

No need. If you get Ghost or Pilgrim, you'll need a ghost on the cover or a pilgrim on the cover. So is completely random.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments I've signed up... what can I say, It's an addiction. The wheels look fantastico!!

Three od the mods already called dibs on team names, so yeah, it's addictive.

Thanks. The wheel creating site we use has holiday themed options... It was a sign we were heading on the right direction.

Melissa | 3779 comments This looks amazing!! I love the Holiday season and Nightmare, my husband and I were Jack and Sally for Halloween 2 years ago :)

I am so excited to start this.

Jenny | 8052 comments Yay! I just signed up!
The question about how many books I typically read a month threw me. I used to read about 15 until I met this group, but shockingly the TTVI tweaked my numbers and my reading habits a bit. You guys are all bad influences. Just saying. Teehee.

message 12: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments BAD INFLUENCE?!

Why I never....

*takes note to make special wheels for Jenny*

message 13: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments One of these days the wheel words will be mods favorite books and series and whatnots.. And then I'll sit back and enjoy the circus burning....

message 14: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments I knew as I posted that comment that I should just keep my big mouth shut. Whoops.

("Special" wheel with words like sesquicentennial, plinth, heterodox, defenestration, and bifurcate are in my near future).

I have to run to my bookshelves and start searching...

Jenny's luck is that as a non English native, I need to get a dictionary to understand what those words are.

Sonia wrote: "Jenny's luck is that as a non English native, I need to get a dictionary to understand what those words are. "

Sonia, as an English native I needed to check two of those! (though defenestration is a favourite :) also: liminal and peregrination)

message 22: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Cat, I just had to look up peregrination. Good word!

message 23: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Sonia, pick up The Highly Selective Dictionary for the Extraordinarily Literate. And then, forget that I told you about it!!!!

message 24: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Defenestration is one of my favorite words. I try to use it in everyday life, but there is rarely a time when it works. I do often want to defenestrate someone, but alas, I am only violent in my mind. (Perhaps I shouldn't have used the word alas in that previous sentence).

message 25: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Jenny wrote: "Cat, I just had to look up peregrination. Good word!"

Peregrination is similar to the Portuguese equivalent - Peregrinação - and as a woman that grew up listening about Fatima's peregrination or the Santiago de Compostela one, so I needed no research...in this case.

message 26: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Jenny wrote: "Perhaps I shouldn't have used the word alas in that previous sentence"

Ahahahahahahahahah

Oh the times I want to defenestrate someone.... they're enough to score me a nice room with a nice view of the Valley of Tortuous Souls when I die.

message 27: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments I just framed a bunch of souvenirs and photographs for a couple who walked the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage. That area looks really pretty.

Maybe even some vanilla scented ones

*giggles*

Dang... I should have used vanilla as one of the words...

tsk tsk

message 31: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Save vanilla for a special challenge...

Books you wish you could forget but can't, or the did you really recommend this to me challenge, or the Quidditch and KU ate my brain challenge (which includes titles like Kadin), or the inappropriate at any age challenge. Just a thought.

like Gremlins? (true story: we were just talking about Secret Santa in my office, and one person mentioned getting a Gizmo toy one year. the other (a young Millennial-type) looked utterly puzzled. Saying "from Gremlins? the film?" didn't enlighten. my colleague and I felt O.L.D.)

(also: yes, we are sorting out our office Xmas lunch already, don't judge! My family almost missed out on a big outing to the panto because we were late in booking. late! it's September!)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Random off topic rant, because... I need to share it :o)

I bought this new yogurts the other day because they had a release promotion, and they looked cute.

(Yes, I buy food because it's cute)

I was eating it right now when a red lettering caught my attention, and I realized two things:
One, they had not a single word in portuguese. The warnings were in Spanish. SPANISH.
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't have anything personal against Spanish - apart them trying to invade us once or twice every millennia or so. But, labels, composition and such should be also written in Portuguese. Not everybody knows different languages.

Second, and this is a complete shock *whispers* yogurts have milk on them.

I know, right? I got them from the dairy section, and I know they're a milk byproduct but they have milk on it? That I would never thought of.

disclaimer: yes, I am being totally ironic. But I do know that yogurt is fermented milk, and if you didn't, sorry to sound a bit patronizing.... but since I'm on my way to hell, cheese and cream have milk too. Oh, and cheesecake, ice-cream, and the other good stuff. Unless is on the vegan aisle or says it's dairy free, it has milk.

The offender:

Yes, and I totally relate. We call one of my best friends the gremlin (long story) and when we start it, 6 or 7 years ago, she had no idea what we were talking about. I know she's 14 years younger than me, but jeeeeez.

Gah! It's like the warnings on take-away coffee "contents may be hot" - yeah! they'd better be hot! (unless ordering an iced coffee, obvs)

on a separate thing: are men allowed to buy these MILK-based yogurts? or do they not need "triple zero" products?
I've been trying to work out what that means: no fat, no sugar, no milk taste ..... errrr..... what IS the last free-from?!

No fat, no sugar, no artificial sweeteners - that's a thing now, apparently... there's a popular dino cookies brand for the kids that has a new commercial about it.

They are. Although considering the macho latino mentality, they might be teased to hell if they eat those in public.

Although skyr yogurts are acceptable. It's the protein content.

Zero sugar = women. Hight protein = men.

*shakes head*

Seriously, the package for a new chocolate milk with higher protein content is this one:

Because only men do strength training that requires muscle snacks.

I'm 9 years younger than you and I love gremlins. Age is not an excuse. As soon as the little one knows how to read subtitles she will see all of the classics: star wars, gremlins, never ending story, the nightmare before Christmas, and so on (I'm having a blank and can't remember any more cool ones)

Star Wars? pfffffttppppp! I've never seen Star Wars all the way through, nor the sequels, and it didn't do me any harm!

Classic Disneys?
