David puleo | 15 comments Why is no one discussing this series? I am new to the genre of fantasy and am so glad I stumbled upon Fablehaven. I am on the 3rd book and am loving it. Anyone else read this book and can recommend books or series like it?

Mareike | 1457 comments I don't think I've ever heard of that...

Shanna | 43 comments Fablehaven wasn't my cup of tea. If you are enjoying it, though, you might also like the Sisters Grimm series by Michael Buckley. The first book is The Fairy-Tale Detectives.

David, Fablehaven came out in 2006 and has over 100,000 ratings. Clearly, people are talking about it! We have multiple threads where people have mentioned it :-) Just not right this second, as there's so many great books!

Are you looking for recommendations? If so, I'll move this thread accordingly. If you want to talk about what people are reading, we have a "What Else Are You Reading" thread where we talk about that!

David puleo | 15 comments I thought that is where I posted this? I apologize but yes am looking for recommendations as well. I have yet to read any Brandon Sanderson works as the library is always out! Also, I love Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Hi, David, I've never read Fablehaven, so I don't really have a base line to make recommendations right off the bat, but I will try to help. Is there a certain element of it you liked that you are looking to see more of?

From the blurb, it looks like it involves children in the real world finding a magical world they didn't know existed. The classic version of that would be The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but you might have already read the Narnia books.

Otherwise, if there is something specific you are looking for like YA fantasy, mythical creatures, or something else you really liked about the series, I might be able to help a bit more.

David puleo | 15 comments What I enjoyed mostly about the series was the magical world itself. I enjoy stories that bring mythical creatures and setting into the real world

I gave it one star. No offense to those who liked it. I thought the premise was okay, but I found the characters annoying.

Rick Riordan has written several novels with this theme.

David puleo | 15 comments I haven’t read his stories yet. I am new to reading this much fiction. I like urban fantasy duck as Neverwhere by Neil gaiman . I enjoyed fablehaven but I was lookin for something more mature

message 17: by Bobby (new)

Bobby | 869 comments Well if you want more Urban Fantasy, you can't go wrong with The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. The first book is Storm Front.

message 18: by Trike (new)

Trike Based on that description, you might try The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter and sequel European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman. I haven’t read them but they certainly sound like adult versions of Fablehaven.

M.L. | 947 comments You might try The Alchemyst. It's a modern setting and they battle everything. It's a fun series.
