How do you decide How to promote your first book ???

My first book was a challenge because the biographical story line was hard to categorise. Does anyone else have that problem with non-fiction books? My second book published 3 years ago, the one coming out in November and the biography for next year has been easier. The topic is Dingoes so I have spent three years interacting with dingo lovers and supporter through social media.
