I’d vote for it too!

I hope so too, Sophie.
I just checked it out. There are now 148 books on it from 55 voters from the group. Aside from the 3 I suggested, I didn’t know about a single other book. I now have 14 of them on my tbr list....
Perhaps if people who haven’t added their suggestions yet did so, there would be even more books and it might make it more likely that it got voted in.
Here’s the list again
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Perhaps whoever is in charge of the list can edit the description to explain what qualifies too. Right now it just says "List created by Around the Year in 52 Books group members including their favourite lesser known book recommendations"

What I remember:
The group did not want to set strict rules about which books might qualify (so far as the rating you gave the book and the max number of GR ratings the book has)
I can't remember if this was fiction only?
Each member could add up to three books to the list.
I THINK we agreed to not add books just published in 2018, since of course many of them would not have a lot of ratings yet.
Yea, we had said they should be at least a year old and have "not a lot" of reviews... which is open to interpretation, but you should look at the lesser known books on your shelves.
I went through my 5 and 4 starred books and found the ones that had the least amount of rankings and added them! 3 per person!

I really hope the ATY list comes back around for a vote. I think it would help to create a sense of community and could be a good prompt for discussion.

I think the 3 that I added were all under 10,000 ratings but after discussion, we didn't want to be too limiting. Personally, I'd say under 20-25,000 constitutes lesser known and should be good for the list.

That's great! Thanks :)

Silvia, when I first suggested the prompt, I envisioned putting some of my favourite books that I rarely saw people discuss on goodreads. We all have books that we think are exceptional and people tend to know about them because they are discussed often in the popular press and have many ratings (e.g., To Kill a Mockingbird). However, what I had hoped for this list was that people would put books they thought “were that good” but that somehow were missed by the general public. So the number of ratings doesn’t really matter unless there are so many ratings that most of us would already know about the book. By limiting it to 3 or only a few books per person, it forces people to put their top choices and not every book they rate highly. In other words, they should put their “gems”. Does this help?

Well described Sophie. I have been a fan of this idea since you first brought it up and I am still rooting for it! I will be doing it for my rejects challenge regardless but it would be nice to have it on the main list because I think the discussion could be really good.

Done. Let me know, Sophie, if I should word it differently.

Perfect, thank you Sophie 😉

I’m nervous that tomorrow we are going to get a “surprise! 8 prompts won and we are done with the polls!” 😂😂
In order to ease some anxiety, we will not be having 8 winners tomorrow :)
