There's a bit more nuance to the rules than that, but I can't locate the posts atm. I'm waiting for our Captains to chime in :)

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments At least the Titular character in a biography should be applicable, doesn't make a difference in this case, but you know what I mean?

message 703: by Deanna (new)

Deanna | 3529 comments I had to go find the Q&A.

"◈ Q: Do characters in non-fiction books count?
A: Typically no. For example, if it is a historical account of WWII and the story is about Winston Churchill, he is not considered a 'character'.
Exceptions would be something like a memoir, ( e.g. Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness) where someone is recounting events and situations ; then it is possible there would be characters."

message 704: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Gosh that is so vague.

message 705: by Deanna (new)

Deanna | 3529 comments Alysa wrote: "Gosh that is so vague."

Yes, honestly it's easier to err on the side of caution and just use title and author for nonfiction books.

message 706: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Well at least the S in "Stevie" is covered by the Author's first name being "Steven" !

message 707: by Brittany (new)

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments You think a biography of a specific person would allow especially since celebrities often take on new names or change their names thus making them characters ;)

message 708: by Brittany (new)

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments Yeah in my case it doesn't make a difference, but just in general haha

Oooh, I read that a few months ago. So much fun!
And my daughter watched The Princess Bride with her friends for a sleepover a few days ago. (She's seen in a few times, but some of the other girls hadn't :D)

message 712: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Alysa this was so enjoyable. The Princess Bride has been one of my favorite movies for 30 years. I shared it with my daughter this year and thankfully she loved it. I was holding my breath the whole time watching her watch the movie, lol. This book was such a love letter to that film, something very special. Plus listening to Cary Elwes for 7 hours never hurt anyone!

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Ditto on all counts :D

Deanna | 3529 comments Jan, can you double check Dorothy Must Die when you get a chance? It's not showing a start date for me.

JanEyre9 Just finished A Perilous Undertaking, will update SS tomorrow.

Deanna I will check the dorothy must die listing tomorrow when I'm at a computer. I realized after I marked it finished I had the wrong edition so I tried to fix it but somehow missed a start date. I'll figure it out :)

I noticed that you are also reading that very long Jacqueline Carey book. If you don’t finish it this week, I sure hope it ends up working for next! 😁

Are you claiming any specific letters for this week, or just planning to add books to the spreadsheet as you finish them?

Ah, never mind then. When you had it marked as "currently reading", it was showing a previous reading start/end in 2017, and a current reread with a start date during the challenge for some reason :/

How are you doing on Grave Peril and Gold Dust Woman? I think you read even more books at a time than most of s do :D

message 731: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Brittany wrote: "Ugh I hate Christmas books :("''

Me too. I have some books that happen to take place at Xmas time, but none of them are, like, actual CHRISTMAS books.

Yeah it was a VERY slow read, because I read it with my boyfriend and we would pick it up from time to time, took almost a year ahahaha. Normally it would only take me a few days to a week at the most

Haha Grave Peril will be done today, and
Hopefully Gold Dust Woman since it is due back to the library today ahahaha. I'm hoping I can recheck it out or I will have to sit in the lirbary and speed read it.

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Brittany wrote: "I'm hoping I can recheck it out or I will have to sit in the lirbary and speed read it."

Oh man, I hate when that happens. I did that a while back with a book that was really bad anyway (reading for a different challenge), and sitting there trying to cram it in my brain was so unpleasant.

message 734: by Brittany (new)

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments Yeah it's just a weird format I am interested in it, and I love Stevie Nicks, but it's not a fast read

It came together for me in the last 1/3. definitely more humor than I expected. I would continue the series but am not rushing for it.

Alysa H. | 3840 comments @Brittany - did you end up finishing Grave Peril? That's the next book in the series for me too.

How is everybody doing today? WHERE is everybody today? ;D

I started Dark Descent but haven't decided if I'll attempt to finish it for this week ( and answer first set DQs for BOM) or stretch into next week, now that I know it will work for at least 1 letter in the new word. So that's why it's not on the spreadsheet yet.
