Getting ready to add our first Thursday to the spreadsheet!!

Ashley (itsmedaisy) | 279 comments It did seem like it took us super long to get our first completion this week. Maybe it'll pick up now that we did the first time through the longer word

message 754: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Maybe. “Candycorn” was even longer though, and our timeline was a lot better. Also, this week Megan has one (unfinished?) book on the spreadsheet and Rebecca has none. I don’t know if they’re busy reading stuff for Wheel and just not reporting in, or what...
*is nervous* 😕

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments Sorry I'm trying to get as many books read as I can. Next week will be slower for me with family in town for Thanksgiving and I am cooking the feast

That's true, it did seem like we were flying through Candycorn!

No apologies needed! You are chatting here a lot, at least, so we know what’s going on.

I think most of us (at least us Americans and American-adjacent people 🙂) have Thanksgiving plans next week. I might actually be able to read more though, or at least not less!

message 758: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (itsmedaisy) | 279 comments I'll be reading more next week too, no work to get in the way of my life.

Danielle- do you have the word in text from your Better not Pout book, I tried to pull it up on Amazon but its not letting me look inside the print edition for some reason (it could just be my work computer being ridiculous)

message 759: by Brittany (new)

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments I will read less becuase I listen to audio books at work a lot so that helps me get through more book shaha.

That’s true for a lot of us.
But at least for me when I am off work almost the whole of next week that means I can read more print & kindle stuff to compensate. We’ll be visiting my mother, so my daughter can hang out with her while I hide in bed with books!

message 762: by Brittany (new)

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments hahaha I don't think anyone will let me sit and read until they are in bed

message 763: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (itsmedaisy) | 279 comments We aren't doing anything for Thanksgiving so I just get to sit here and I'm so happy! My mother in law was here a few weeks ago and my parents are supposedly coming next month, so we will probably throw some kind of ridiculous meal together and call it a day. We don't really cook ever

message 764: by Brittany (new)

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments haha I love to cook, but it does get time consuming to try to time everything to get done at once. I need a double oven so badly haha

message 765: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (itsmedaisy) | 279 comments It's all the dishes that really gets to me with cooking! I try to use paper/plastic for everything on a regular day.

Alysa H. | 3840 comments @Ashley... If you move Gone Girl from A to D, it looks like we can complete our 2nd spell-out? Is it worth doing, or do you wanna wait until more people finish more stuff?
ETA: Nevermind, I guess we'll have a D as soon as someone finishes Dark Descent ;D

Re Thanksgiving, after many years of superduper large family gathering's this will be the 2nd time in a row that it's just a small 'do with a handful of people. Both ways have their pros and cons, I guess!

message 768: by Ashley (new)

I'll get the planning spreadsheet for next week up tomorrow. I can run out to use the library wifi if mine hasn't been fixed yet.

Yes - I'm at work but when I get home I'll post the sentence and location in the book.

I've finished 2 more books but I've been crazy busy so haven't had a chance to post and update but I will tomorrow because I'm working from home.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) I'm hosting my entire extended family for Thanksgiving as well so I"m not sure how much I'll get read that week. I'll probably post a few and than I can always add if I get a chance to read more.

Deanna | 3529 comments Brittany,

The spreadsheet currently has Gold Dust Woman and This Side of the Grave listed for you.

message 781: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Excellent!

I am nearly done with An Unkindness of Ghosts. That will be my last book for this week. I could theoretically finish Dark Descent, but will focus instead on my 800+ page R book instead so that I can use it next week.
I’m also not sure if Dark Descent can be used for this week even if I did finish it by the deadline, depending on how many times we spell out “Thursday” with our existing claims.

There are plenty of swaps I can make to open up a D or two for anyone wishing to finish Dark Descent this week. If you finish it, I'll make sure it is used.

message 783: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments It also works for H (character Henry — whose last name, Clerval, can be used for C next week too 🙂)

message 784: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (itsmedaisy) | 279 comments I will finish Dark Descent today, and I think I’m going to start a longer book for next week too. I might try to do a few longer books this week with the long weekend

message 785: by Brittany (new)

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments Thanks, Gold Dust Woman got SUPER boring, but I did finish THis Side of the Grave, updating the book completion right now actually!

I was disappointed in the plot (well, the general lack thereof) but I thought the character work was outstanding.

I was switching back & forth between ebook and audio. The narrator was fine, but I didn't think audio was the best medium for this book.

message 790: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Deanna wrote: "Planning spreadsheet for next week's spelling of CRANBERRY is up!"

For word-as-genre, we can also use RED instead of CRANBERRY.
Which is awesome. Because I don't know about the rest of you, but for me it's impossible to find Cranberry as genre.

message 791: by Deanna (new)

Deanna | 3529 comments I found Cranberry Oatmeal Murder (Cookie Lane #2) by Karen Sullivan for cranberry on the cover, which I will definitely read.

I also found Old World Murder (A Chloe Ellefson Mystery #1) by Kathleen Ernst at the library, which has red on the first genre page that I can read if needed. Even with the red tag option I had a really hard time finding a book I could borrow with either cranberry or red on the first page of tags.

True, the plot was, well, yeah.... I tried to explain it to my boyfriend and floundered a lot, until I just told him it was good & he should check it out! but it was a good example of talking about difficult subjects by taking them out of context - family often wonder why I like SFF books, and this one is why - slavery and racism out of context is hard to justify but is also less judgemental, somehow.

I'm not sure I'm explaining myself well...!

message 793: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments On the contrary, that makes total sense!

And that ending was... interesting. Like, more symbolic than making any actual sense. Sometimes this book wasn't sure whether it wanted to be literal or symbolic, and ended up an odd mix.

I haven't found a RED-as-genre book yet either, but I did find a GR user who has tagged hundreds of books as Red so maybe someone else can have a look and see if anything interests them and has Red as MPG.

Boo: Sally is still significantly leading us on "Difficult Letters" and they actually also have the word "CRANBERRY" for next week. So, no help for us there, but potentially no harm either I guess?
