Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments I've started Kingdom of Ash (Throne of Glass, #7) by Sarah J. Maas but only got 31 pages in when my dad arrived so i will pick thatbook up a little later. I have about 150pages of another book i need to finish today, which won't count for the challenge and then I will get started on The Vampire's Mail Order Bride (Nocturne Falls, #1) by Kristen Painter . I am aiming to get that finished sometime tomorrow

Wishbear | 393 comments I read at 2x the speed and I can go faster if I can concentrate solely on the book. I find its way easier if I use ear buds/head phones. My husband's got me into reading audio books but he only listens at regular speed. If I'm listening to one of his favorite books, I'll play it for him and half the time he has no idea what I'm listening to

Sarah | 3273 comments I have started my audio book today and made some headway - the Orphan's Tale has been exhilarating so far. Perfect book for a circus setting category I also need for another challenge of mine. Great narrater too. Enjoying. But now gonna start a new book with my daughter and read to her before bed.

Beth (jasonverlander) | 1567 comments I wasn’t sure how much I’d like this book as I e never read anything like it but the only reason I quit reading it last night is because I was already only getting 5 hours of sleep lol

I stayed up until almost 2:30am finishing my shorter books so I'll be running on 5 hrs sleep also lol

GreenFairy (greenfairy429) | 141 comments Like Beth, I'm currently reading Feral Sins (The Phoenix Pack, #1) by Suzanne Wright

Do we know if two teammates reading the same book is acceptable? Can they both be used for two different bonuses? Two different letters? I don't want to keep reading if it won't work.

So, yes, both books will count toward letters and two separate bonuses as well. I asked mods in the captains group to be sure.

Me too Beth - stayed up all night reading listening to my audio. Haha, slept for like three hours. Wen to bed around 3 am. And now up again.

Sarah | 3273 comments Back to audio while I cook breakfast then I'll spend the day reading my ebook or reading to my daughter.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments WTG so far guys. We already have a few books done and I am set to finish my first book later today and will continue listening to Kingdom of Ash at work today as it’s looking like a heavyish admin day so listening to an audio book while I work helps me get through it.

If I finish vampire mail order bride, I will start on werewolf whoops.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments

Also as we finish books, I will start moving them around a little to start making up the word. For the moment please may I ask you to just keep popping completed books into vacant spaces and I will move them around as needed. Please also pop in the start date as you start reading each one so I can see what people are currently reading as this will help with my re-arranging

Things we need to remember as we read:

🔸in order to check in each book, we need at least one book from every player included.
🔹we need to finish each run through of our word before we get points for the next run though so if we have a wholepile of Ls and Es for example we would only get points for the ones in all the finished words and only the first infinished word so please try and fill in gaps where can.
I will my best to re-arrange so we can get max points possible
🔸have fun 😀

Krissy (krissystewart) | 316 comments So it's mandatory for each spell out of 'werewolf' to include at least one book read by every team member?

What if you have a member that is only able to read 2 books that week? Does that mean we will only be able to get 2 full words spelled out?

message 163: by Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon (last edited Oct 28, 2018 02:25PM) (new)

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments No sorry, not mandatory for each spell out. Just that each member must have at least 1 book included in the books we submit for the week so if you can only read one book, and that’s fine btw 🙂, we must make sure to include it in our submission for the week in either of the completed run through or the one unfinished run though.

What I was trying to say I. The post above was more that we can’t submit our lot of word run throughs for the for the week only made up of books from just 3 or 4 players. Every team member needs to have contributed at least one book per week

As long as everyone has contributed at least one book for the week, we can then have as many run throughs as we like 😀

My oldest daughter is 15 and we have buddy reads all the time as well.

My younger daughter is almost 9. We just finished Sticks & Stones. We are currently working our way through a graphic novel called Giants Beware! which is really cute

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments My daughter is 6 and she has really only started reading chapter books but her class read Charlie and the chocolate factory in glass so last night we started on Charlie and the great glass elevator but at this stage I am not sure how far we will get with it

Krissy (krissystewart) | 316 comments My son just turned 7 a week ago. He's autistic so he isn't as advanced in reading yet. I'm still reading him picture books. Tonight's book was:
The Horrible Spookhouse by Kicki Stridh

Sarah | 3273 comments QReading to my girl is one of my most treasured parts of the day. And now she also reads to herself. Our favorites socfar have been for picture book The Princess and the Pony by Kate Beaton - it is hilarious, also XO, OX A Love Story by Adam Rex , also funny.

Krissy, your nine year old may like Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes by Jonathan Auxier and Sophie Quire and the Last Storyguard by Jonathan Auxier - they are violent, it is fantasy, but these books are so good. I loved reading them to Lola and they are her favorite ever - and there is adventure and humor. We also loved Bunnicula (Bunnicula, #1) by James Howe - the whole series. Lola likes the funny stuff. Wonder (Wonder, #1) by R.J. Palacio and Auggie & Me Three Wonder Stories (Wonder #1.5, 1.6, 1.7) by R.J. Palacio are soooo good.

Right now Lola and I are reading all books by Kate DiCamillo - love her stories.

Krissy (krissystewart) | 316 comments I'll have to check them out! We've been slowly working our way through The Babysitter's Club series. Samara is enjoying that.

I'm going to check my local library for that The Princess and the Pony book. It looks cute!

Sarah | 3273 comments I guess no one was gonna do DQs for any BOM reads? I will read and participate for Crazy Rich Asians when it starts - but DQs are assigned. I just may have to start late, waiting on hold at library.

GreenFairy (greenfairy429) | 141 comments https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I changed my formatting for this. I have the book letters listed in order from the very beginning of the thread, any bonus it applies for, and who posted the book.

If it's the October BOM, it does not count for this week.

message 180: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments No it will start Nov 2nd. So wouldn't count until a later week. I would not be starting until then.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments

So we have our week 2 spin and our word is

BLOOD

I will update the planning spreadsheet with a week2 page tonight but feel free to starting to thinking about what you might be able read next week because though it’s a shorter word, I think the letters may be a little trickier

Still some teams have Halloween or trick-or-treat as their words next week so I think we have done ok 😀

message 183: by Sarah (last edited Oct 29, 2018 06:16PM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments For next week I have an O an L and a couple B's, maybe another O. Ambitious, but I plan to start on a couple of them this week hopefully.

Just finshed The Idiot by Elif Batuman . It was runner up for the Pulitzer last year and I liked it, but it would not be for everyone.

message 184: by GreenFairy (new)

GreenFairy (greenfairy429) | 141 comments If you start them this week and don't finish them until next week, that is fine. You can't start and finish this week, then use it for the following week.

Sarah | 3273 comments ALERT TO CAPTAINS - I made a boo boo. Just FYI there is no character R for Robin for my book finished The Idiot. I removed it from my post. I added F for another character Fern. Haha, Robin is my character in Lethal White which I had just started when I posted that. I got confused. Sorry.

Sarah | 3273 comments Just came across this on Facebook - maybe someone will want to read Blood Bond Saga Part 1 by Helen Hardt next week - haha not me though. It has blood on cover and in title and even genre has bloodbond (if that would count) I think it is a vampire sex book? "Erotic, erotic, put your hands all over my body" - Modanna

And a B for title and D for Dante, the protagonist I think.

message 189: by Krissy (last edited Oct 30, 2018 06:36AM) (new)

Krissy (krissystewart) | 316 comments I'll be reading this for the Blood genre bonus:

Lover's Rebirth (Circle of Blood #1) by R.A. Steffan OR The Bones of Our Fathers by Elin Gregory

message 190: by Karolyn (new)

Karolyn | 1041 comments I feel like I might finally be getting into the swing of the challenge. We had a lot going on this weekend, but I should finish my second book today. Hopefully I can get 2 more done this week.

Question on the MPG for next week... Is there an easy way to find books with an MPG on their main page. I can search MPG Blood... but all the top hits don't have it on the book's main page.

message 191: by Krissy (new)

Krissy (krissystewart) | 316 comments I noticed on the other teams they are saying the genre tag just has to be on the FIRST page of tags. Not necessarily on the "main page"

can captains verify please?

not an Igor captain, but yes, there was a rule refinement that means the genre needs to show up on the first 100 tags (i.e. first page of shelves)

i.e. for your possible book "The Bones of Our Fathers" it would be this page you look on: https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve... which has blood as shelved by 1 person, so OK

That would be great! If the Mods can verify, I have Blood Sins checked out that would work for MPG or title or text next week.

You are correct. The genre tag now just needs to be on the first page of shelves. Doesn’t matter how many users
