Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 141 comments I haven't read it either. Not too sure if I've seen it or not. I remember intending to watch it a few years back, but don't think I actually ended up doing so.

I got a copy of the Count of monte cristo today, mine is 500 pages so its a abriviated version. But I mean idk too lazy to find the 1,200 pages one. And abriviated versions keep most of the plot in my experience.

Nothing wrong with that. I agree that you still get most of the plot with abreviated versions. Not sure if I've got the full version or not, but I think I might also have grabbed an abreviated version. Like I said though, nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't really matter.

Yes, I mean stressing around to find the "real" version is just silly. Its supposed to be fun, not a task.

I read the book yesterday. I really enjoyed it. Dramatic story and many characters but I did highly enjoy it.

Found this about the abriviated vs unabrigied versions.
I as I sad, read abriviated version I dident find it lacking. Though I might read the unabrigiated in the future.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 141 comments Glad you enjoyed the book.

I haven't started reading it yet. Got to finish up a couple of October reads first, so planning to read it at the start of November.

I sometimes think people exaggerate about the difference between abbreviated and not. The couple of times I've read both versions of something to compare, I didn't see much difference, even though people made a big deal about all the things you miss by reading the abbreviated version. Yeah, there are likely some scenes not described in as much detail, or some quotes that don't make it in to the abbreviated version. But that's generally it. At least, it has been in my experience. Maybe it's different for this book? I don't know. But I'm going to read whichever version I've got, and if it's the abbreviated version - which I'm pretty sure it is - then that's good enough for me.

Here's my review:

The Count of Monte Cristo The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book, but didn't love it. It had a plot that was at times fascinating, but other times seemed to drag a bit. It was only really those parts where the plot dragged a bit that spoiled it for me. I can see why it's a classic.
