Kate (kathrynlouwca) Having multiple places to read is always important during the readathon. So what are your favorite places to read?

My favorite place to read is on my sofa. I can't read in bed because I tend to fall back asleep. My sofa is actually a love seat so I can't really stretch out and fall asleep, but it is still comfy.

So where do you like to read?

message 2: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments I alternate between my sofa and my bed. Don’t think the weather is going to be good enough to read on my balcony unfortunately.

message 3: by Erica (new)

Erica (ericareadslibros) I love to read on my bed, by the window, with my pillows propped up so I won't fall asleep. I also like to read on my couch but don't always get to with a full house. I do love reading on my kindle before bed too!

message 4: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 123 comments One of my favorite places to read is my local cafe. The food is amazing and the service is ridiculously slow. I'd never go there if I had plans afterwards, but it's perfect for a 2-3 hour reading brunch session without feeling bad about taking up a chair. They've gotten better recently and it's kinda annoying.

That sounds nice! I don't have any places like that. Just franchises; Starbuck's, Dunkin', Panera. The local Prime Roast is not a sit-down coffee shop, just an in-and-out. *le sigh*

message 8: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I love to read in my home library, surrounded by my books! I have a corner chair with an ottoman and a huge blanket. Otherwise, I'm in the living room on the couch or the chaise. I only read in bed before bedtime and I try to stay away from "bedtime" during the 'thon. But I always succumb. I love my sleep. lol. I love reading on my chaise on my back porch when the weather's good but it will be pretty cold this weekend. I'm not a fan of the "read in 3 spots and 1 must be out of the house" BINGO square. lol. Guess I could take the dogs for a walk and listen to my audiobook.

I traditionally start at starbucks and spend my first hour there. After that, I change locations around my house and outside (weather permitting). And often end up at starbucks again later in the evening for another hour. At home it's usually the couch, or my balcony if it's nice enough. If it's warm and dry outside, I'll sit out by the pool and read.

message 10: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) | 21 comments I prefer either a good chair or the couch. I don't read too much in bed either, I'd just fall back asleep if I tried it.
I also sit at dining chairs when I'm tired :P

message 11: by Lena (new)

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments I prefer the loveseat as it is also a recliner. I also like to read outside on the porch if it isn't too cold. Thinking of getting "out and about" for some of my reading this time around (not sure where), but my daughter will be with her dad most of the day so I figure I might take a book to the park if it is nice weather or to a coffee shop (or the reading nooks at the library) if the weather is yucky.

message 12: by Alix (last edited Oct 18, 2018 05:25PM) (new)

Alix (pixiealix) | 25 comments I was really hoping to get outside in my hammock for some of the day (before it's time to take it down), but our weather forecast looks like this:

Showers likely, mainly between 8am and 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. West northwest wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Sooooooo.... I'm pretty sure I'll be under my electric blanket in my recliner or curled up in bed. Maybe I'll lay on the floor with the doggo for a bit for a change of pace. Said doggo will need walked whatever the weather, so I'll be outside at some point, it'll just be an audiobook-while-walking situation rather than a sunny hammock one.

message 13: by Ann A (new)

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments I love to read outside in natural light, so I'm hoping it will be warm enough to read on the patio for a bit on Saturday (so far, the forecast looks promising). A bench at the park is also a favorite. My inside "go-to" spot is a sofa, wrapped up in my fuzzy blanket.

message 14: by Vera-Michele (new)

Vera-Michele (booknerd368) | 4 comments It’s currently so cold and I don’t have heat throughout my house so my bed is where I’ll be reading for the day

message 15: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (courtneymichele) | 14 comments My favorite place for the october read-a-thon... a chaise lounge at a spa on a tropical island in asia. This tear > Bali

message 16: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Forecast says 60 and partly cloudy so I may take my comfy blanket outside on the deck with me for a portion of the day. I do enjoy reading a physical book outside! I'd better tell my husband to leave one of the chaises out, he's packing up the deck today! lol

message 17: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (shewolf0316) | 505 comments Mod
It's supposed to be in the 60s I think for me. Warm enough to be on the patio or balcony if I have a light jacket on. Will depend on how dry everything is after all the rain the past 2 weeks. LOL I do have a race in the evening so I'll be audio booking it for a few hours.

message 18: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) We have a high of 82 on Saturday. Why won't the fall come and play with me?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1437 comments I like to change reading spots, but with my son home this weekend it's probably mainly going to be in his room/computer room so I can stay near. Also will have to indulge in one of my bath reads ;) I may sneak out to a coffee shop for a bit to read as well which I always aim to do and rarely do -- I did in the April one though.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1437 comments It's still going to be decently hot this weekend so don't see much outside reading unless it's evening or rainy.

message 21: by Dev (new)

Dev | 1 comments My favorite place to read is under the cabana as the ocean air attacks my nostrils and wave crashes symphony my imagination. --but that's on the selective vacation. Sigh.

At home, my favorite place to read is in the natural light, on my chaise.

message 22: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1 comments 99% of the time I read I'm either on my bed or in my bed! It's just the comfiest place to read :)

message 23: by Rebecka (new)

Rebecka (hoppeduponbooks) | 178 comments Most of the time I read in the sofa because I like the company of my husband but other than that my favourite place is my Strandmon chair in my bedroom.

message 24: by Megan (new)

Megan Rudek (smiley9212) | 20 comments I like to read in my mom cave, but when it gets to warm in there I either move to the living room or to the guest bed room.

I do most of my reading in bed before I go to sleep. When I have time I hang out on the couch

message 27: by Beth (new)

Beth (jasonverlander) | 1 comments Most of my reading happens on the couch but I love reading outside in the summer! We have a nice patio and the sun is shining right on it in the morning and it’s a great way to start the morning in the summer

Mom cave, I love it!!

message 30: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) My favorite spot to read is the bath. I can finish an entire book in there if I have enough time and I'm really enjoying the book.

My two other favorite spots are my bed or the one comfy chair we have. I'm not opposed to reading in the car either but I rarely go anywhere far enough to really enjoy it. ^_^

message 31: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 412 comments Bath time reading can be fun. I often find myself reading even faster than usual there. The bad part is when the bath gets cold. Lol.

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) Jamie wrote: "Bath time reading can be fun. I often find myself reading even faster than usual there. The bad part is when the bath gets cold. Lol."

Same! I think it's because there are literally no distractions!

I just add more hot water. I have been known to almost drain the tub and completely refill it with hot water just so I can read in there longer. I think my record is like 6-8 hours?

message 33: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 412 comments Oh my I don’t think I’ve gone that long maybe four hours

message 34: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 412 comments If that

message 35: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) It was a long time ago. I distinctly remember it because I was reading one of the HP books that had just been released and I stayed up all night to finish it. I was in the tub from like 1 am to like 8 am or something like that and then I had to go to a wedding where I did finish the book. I don't think I slept in between... I was a loooooooooooooong day but sooooooooooo worth it.

message 36: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cathepsut) | 572 comments I tend to switch places during the day. I only read in bed in the morning after waking up and before sleeping in the evening. During the day it‘s one of my two sofas, my breakfast table and the beanbag on my balcony.

message 37: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I have a very comfortable sofa which is my preferred reading spot but during lockdown I have cleared my small conservatory of clutter and made myself a reading space so I can sit and enjoy the sun and garden this time round. :)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) When I moved, I splurged on a rocker/recliner. Took my time trying a lot of them and getting in the right spot in my home. Now it's 100% the favorite reading spot and I'm expecting some nice sunshine.

message 39: by Lee (new)

Lee McBride | 17 comments Because I don't sleep in my home office at all, I will spend most of my readathon in here. I have a couch and a comfy chair at my desk. If I need a break from this room, I might go out to the recliner in the living room or take a walk with an audiobook.

For the readathon I like to alternate between the the sofa and the floor . My great room is carpeted so it is comfortable to stack a few pillows on the floor and read .

Home libraries are cool if you're a reader . Thanks for sharing .

Claire (proud-mum) | 89 comments I’ve just done my first two hours in the bath, managed about 50-60 pages. Will spend most of the read-a-thon curled up in bed.

I just finished my first 85 pages .

message 45: by Beth (new)

Beth | 190 comments I did some reading in bed this morning. I went outside a little bit, but I was reading on my phone and now I need to charge it. I will go outside again later this afternoon. I have a chair to curl up in and my yoga mat next to the bed.

A good chair in my opinion is essential in getting through a good readathon.

message 47: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Today I've been mostly in a La-Z-Boy recliner. Went outside for a couple hours on the deck chaise. Now back in the La-Z-Boy (well, on the barstool at the counter while typing this). I may take a bath in a couple of hours, maybe when I can hardly keep my eyes open, and pop in some things to relax me but also wake me up. I got a neat bath kit for Christmas that I haven't used yet (we just fixed our tub, it wasn't running hot water) and now would be a good time to de-stress!

Great idea. I love taking a bath and reading. I usually do this myself when I start to get uncomfortable reading elsewhere.
