Zakle | 104 comments I would prefer books inspired by Alice in Wonderland but I will consider retellings. Basically, anything that's out there, imaginative, and darker than said book. I have no preference for protagonist gender or sexuality.

Please suggest books that are in the fantasy genre. I will consider others like science fiction but I'm mostly looking for fantasies.

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5380 comments Black Alice is a mystery inspired by Alice in Wonderland. You might be interested in my "Alice books" shelf.

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5380 comments Zakle, what’s the distinction you’re making between “retellings” of Alice in Wonderland, and books “based on” Alice in Wonderland? When I read your topic header, I assumed you wanted books with a loopy, anarchic feel, lots of colorful characters, an intrepid hero, and maybe taking place in a dream. But you want books directly inspired by Alice, not just influenced.

I love that one.

Zakle | 104 comments What I meant when I started this search was that I wanted something with the feel of Wonderland. Basically, fantastical characters in surreal settings. I didn't word it right and for that I'm sorry.

Thank you for the recommendations, everyone.

eva (calendarbusiness) | 15 comments I've never read it, but The Story of Alice by Robert Douglas-Fairhurst examines the two Alice books by Lewis Carrol and I hear it's very good. It isn't fiction but it may satisfy your Alice craving--I had a phase very similar to yours right after I read the books.

Karen | 262 comments The Iron King reminded me of Alice in Wonderland but nowhere near a direct adaptation of it.
