Most public libraries offer a service whereby you can fill out a form and request/suggest a book to purchase which is not in the library's stock. A purchase is not guaranteed, but it gives the book a fighting chance, because librarians are always looking for quality books.
The catch is this : in most cases you will need to enter a library card number for that library to complete the form.
So why don't we authors help one another out ? What I'm proposing is very simple and totally above board. A few of us exchange details, then we all submit requests to our local library for each other's books. I'd be very happy to send requests to my library in Wallasey if I knew that other libraries were getting requests for my book.
