Christine | 638 comments I finished The Furnace (not listed on Goodreads) which was a n interesting graphic novel, but a bit confusing. Now on to Rogue Protocol (love the Murderbot series!!)

Jim Mcclanahan (clovis-man) | 485 comments Finished Galactic Patrol by E. E. Doc Smith and now jumping 80 years forward in time to Railsea by China Miéville.

message 4: by Nick (new)

Nick (doily) | 1011 comments Just finished Dan Simmons' The Rise of Endymion, the 4th book in his "Hyperion" series. I feel immolated (like riding with Brunhilde through the flames at the end of the "Ring" Cycle.)

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 174 comments Congrats on finishing the Hyperion Cantos! Which of the 4 did you like the most?

I’m reading FOUNDRYSIDE by Robert Jackson Bennett.

One of my all-time favorite endings. I cry, did you? :)

I'm between books at the moment. Will probably pick up The Mad Ship next.

Count me as another fan of Hyperion Cantos. So excellent!

I am over halfway through Too Like the Lightning. I may postpone Age of Myth, our other BotM for October, and jump into some books I need to read for another group (October and November's installments in the Sword of Truth series) and our own Realm of the Elderlings series.

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 174 comments Age of Myth is quite good, but not as good as his Riyria series (both of them). I’m looking forward to reading Age of War when it’s out in Kindle.

Ken (ogi8745) | 1434 comments Been away again
Read a few things
Spent most of September reading Noble House, it was a slow read, good but slow. Stopped about halfway to read some other stuff

Read
The Fifth Season
Very good

Apollo 8: The Thrilling Story of the First Mission to the Moon
Interesting, most of the stuff I already new plus some new stuff

Persuader
Another enjoyable Jack Reacher book, my only complaint was the back cover blurb, it wasnt even close to the plot of the book

Right now I am reading
The Obelisk Gate

message 18: by Leserling (new)

Leserling Belana (vorleser) | 105 comments I read A Picture of Murder -- vol 3 in the Lady Hardcastle series, followed by The Diary of a Bookseller and Spinning Silver, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and When You Disappeared all of which I enjoyed. I'm currently about half way through Lady Helena Investigates.

Ken (ogi8745) | 1434 comments Finished The Obelisk Gate, very good

Read Tour of the Merrimack: Volume One
The second book in the omnibus, The Wolf Star
Not a perfect book, some stuff blatantly sexist, it felt like 3 of 4 novellas slapped together.

Started Assassins' Dawn, the second book Dance of the Hag

message 21: by Leserling (new)

Leserling Belana (vorleser) | 105 comments Finished The Iron Trial and have now started The Copper Gauntlet

I see you are on a Ghost binge and I assume you are enjoying these books. Can you tell me a little about them without being too spoiler-y? Thanks!

The title Ghosts are the secret agents of the Empire. Our heroine, after being captured by a necromancer, trained with them, and her missions often involve enormous magical dangers.

Sounds good. I’ll have to check them out.

This month I managed to get through Too Like the Lightning by Ada Palmer and Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind. The first book was thought-provoking, complex, but ultimately unsatisfying (maybe because I didn’t know it was the first of a series). The second was a combination of engrossing sections that moved the plot forward and interminable sermons about philosophy and values.

Starting Robin Hobb’s Ship of Magic.

Rather than getting caught up, it appears I am falling further behind. Looks like I will try to read my November books for this and another group in December. But I am well into the first of the Liveship Traders books and I am enjoying it!
