Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2167 comments What book about the Tudors or Tudor England would you like to have as our Group Read in December 2018?

If it's in a series, can it be easily read as a stand-alone? If not, you might want to nominate the first book in the series, or the most recent book in it the group has not read together.

Can't remember what we've already read as a group? (Sometimes I can't, either.) There's a "group-reads" shelf on the group's Bookshelf.

Two nominations to a person, please.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2167 comments We've read both Dissolution and Dark Fire. I can turn this into a nomination of the third one, Sovereign, though.

I agree that it's an excellent series.

message 12: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 22 comments Please do. (I thought about that after I sent my nomination!) Sovereign would by my second favorite book in the series followed by Revelation! Thank you!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2167 comments Alrighty. I'll nominate The Last Armada: Queen Elizabeth, Juan del Águila, and Hugh O'Neill: The Story of the 100-Day Spanish Invasion by Des Ekin, and with that I will close nominations and will open the poll very shortly.

Elizabeth, this book is not in the database!

ETA: I found it.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2167 comments The poll is now open, and you can find it on the group's front page, at the top of its polls section, or here: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1... .

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2167 comments If the polls closed now (which they do not) the winner would be The Other Boleyn Girl, which leads Margaret George's Elizabeth I by 1 vote, and The Tudor Brandons: Mary and Charles - Henry VIII's Nearest & Dearest by 2.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2167 comments Alrighty, we're going to have a runoff. The Other Boleyn Girl and Elizabeth I have tied at the top.

It's in the usual places, or here: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1... .

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2167 comments Elizabeth I, by Margaret George, is the winner.

We'll be discussing it here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... .

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 163 comments I am most likely sittign out this discussion despite the fact that it looks like my library can get Elizabeth I by Margaret George in audio without a long way. This is because this version of book is 25 discs and around 31 hours long, so it it would would take a long time time to finish even if I did it. Plus, I already know a decent amount of about her and some of the other characters who are featured through the books I've listened within this genre.

Arwen | 54 comments Pity, Natalie, I have read/listened to several of Margaret George's books and they were all awfully interesting, even when I knew the character pretty well (Henry VIII for instance). Admitted, they are pretty big books but very worth the reading, I find!
