**Spring Reading Challenge - 2014**

Last night, I finished my fifth, my second 10. TBR, The High Lord, with my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....
I made a start on my first 3d. Read a Rainbow (Green), Treason Keep.
In other news, I'm off to Wellington for a conference (PyCon, if anyone is technically minded) on Friday (and back home on Monday), so that should give me some quality reading time. :-)

1st was a long-held TBR Looking for Alibrandi I am grateful to the Spring Challenge for pushing me to finally read this book, which has been a 'gonna do' for so long. Loved it, 4 stars. I noted that it was originally published in 1992, and I feel that it is still very topical in today's complex Australian multicultural society. A must-read for YAs, no wonder it has remained on the schools' literature lists for so long.
2nd great read was Still Alice
recommended by a book group friend. What a wonderful, moving story 5 stars from me.
Finished my second Silver Wattle. Sadly not my cup of tea!

I'm pleased to read your review Ju"lie. I'm currently reading the earlier book which introduces the character of Charlie Berlin, 'The Diggers Rest Hotel'. Really enjoying it, and looking forward to the second in the series, which you have just finished 'Black Wattle Creek'. Delighted to have discovered this author, Geoffrey McGeachin.

My next book is my 1st Purple book Bitten

I thoroughly enjoyed them both Mary and have the next one, St Kilda Blues ready to go :) when I read his first book I thought, oh wow, this guy is like Enid Blyton for grown ups! And I read some reviews and found another reviewer said exactly the same thing ;)
That's high praise BTW.

"Enid Blyton for grown ups" in a good way or a bad way Julie?

I'm really enj..."
In a very good way. It's not that the stories are like Famous Five or anything like that...just that you get involved in that same kind of mystery and detective work only the adult version if you get my drift?
Gee I hope I haven't done the author a disservice :( I cut my mystery book loving teeth on EB before graduating to more serious crime...so to speak.

#1 tbr Gone Girl read 12 Sep, 3 stars
#3

#4 Australian YA Poor Man's Orange read 15 Sep, 3 stars
#6 labour day Fever
#7 war
#8 friend's read Revolutionary Road
#9 favourite genre, historical fiction Gone with the Wind currently reading
#10 tbr The Phantom of the Opera

Sounds good Julie! I think a lot of us older AR members cut our teeth on EB (and read them to our kids) so I get what you mean. Looking forward to reading Black Wattle Creek for the challenge now!

Can't wait to see what you think of it now ;). (EB on steroids!!)

3c. Blue: Sunbolt

The best showcase of brilliant writing I've read in a long time. One I'll be recommending to everyone!
My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I greatly enjoyed this story and am pleased to have finished another in the YA category, which is a genre that I have rarely encountered. Some more suggestions from those of you who are familiar with the YA field would be welcome.
