Sara The entire time I was reading The City Baker's Guide to Country Living I was envisioning it as a Hallmark style movie.

I'm almost scared to say this (we are all afraid of Hollywood ruining our favorite books), but I think the series A Court of Thorns and Roses would be a great movie series!

What else can you envision on the big screen?

message 2: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 210 comments I would love to see All the Light We Cannot See on the big screen.

message 3: by The Chapter Conundrum (Stacey) (last edited Nov 18, 2018 04:33PM) (new)

The Chapter Conundrum (Stacey) | 404 comments I haven't read any yet, but I've seen a few comments from people saying they would love to see The Lunar Chronicles made into movies so I think I'm going to go with one of those books here! (I have plans to fit in at least the first 3-4 books in 2019.)

I also REALLY REALLY wish that The Selection series by Kiera Cass were movies! (If you like the reality TV show the Bachelor, chances are you'll like this series!)

EDIT: I just finished reading His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik and immediately thought of this prompt! How incredible would it be to see a mass of dragons duking it out in a massive battle on the big screen!!

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab would be awesome on the big screen too imo!

message 5: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (surfybridge) | 24 comments I started The Invisible Library series this year for the library prompt, and thought it would make a great TV show/movie. May do the next book in the series for this The Masked City

I'm listening to The Kind Worth Killing right now and I really want to see a movie version. The author himself even posted about his dream cast! (Peter Swanson's dream cast)

Of course, I'm reading that now so it won't work. Kinda hard to know if you want a movie made until you're actually reading the book!! I guess this will be a good category for sequels - if the first book in the series is movie worthy, the next books are good bets.

message 7: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Kathleen (sarahkathleen) | 7 comments I read Eleanor & Park for the book set in the decade you were born prompt this year, and the whole time I couldn't believe it wasn't already a movie (Shannon Purser was born to play Eleanor).

message 8: by Sara (new)

Sara Darnell (sara_darnell) | 1 comments The breakdown would be fun to watch as a movie!

message 9: by Denise (new)

Denise | 374 comments This is challenging if you don't want to use a book you've already read! I went through my to-read list, and here are a few books I think could be good:

Challenger Deep
This is How It Always Is
The Girl with Seven Names: A North Korean Defector’s Story
Indian Horse
The Comet Seekers

Yes! Those are both great series! I think we will eventually see them both as movies or shows.

message 11: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 145 comments I think the Paper Girls, Vol. 1 graphic novels would make a cool movie with all the time travel and the 4 girl heroines with all of there different personalities. I've read the first 3 so I might read Paper Girls, Vol. 4 here.

message 12: by Michele (new)

Michele Avenoso | 13 comments I think The Good Girl By Mary Kubica would make a good movie but I'll be picking someone else's suggestion since I already read this.

message 13: by Britany (new)

Britany | 1703 comments I read The Hating Game and I think it'd make such a cute romcom.

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) | 896 comments This one is kind of odd as a prompt. I don't mind re-reading for some of the prompts, but there are quite a few that point toward re-reading, and I'm not sure if I want to do that for all of them.

...

I just asked my husband if Reamde would make a good movie, since that's one he recommended to me. He said "YES!" and started talking about the car chases and explosions and so on, so I think I'll go with that one for this prompt. (I'm also planning to read it for ATY's book with more than 500 pages.)

message 15: by Katy (new)

Katy M | 961 comments What I don't understand is how we would know what book we would want turned into a movie before we actually read the book? This one is going to drive me nutsos.

nomadreader (Carrie D-L) (nomadreader) | 0 comments Katy wrote: "What I don't understand is how we would know what book we would want turned into a movie before we actually read the book? This one is going to drive me nutsos."

I agree, Katy. I think my approach will be to read the next in a series I've started that I think should be turned into a movie. That, or I'll decide retroactively after reading something in 2019!

message 17: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Starflight | 986 comments Scythe
Six of Crows
Artemis (though I think it's been optioned to make a film already?)
The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making

Rachel | 13 comments Brittany wrote: "I think the Paper Girls, Vol. 1 graphic novels would make a cool movie with all the time travel and the 4 girl heroines with all of there different personalities. I've read the firs..."

I was thinking of doing the same with Vol. 5 (comes out in October.) I just recently got back into reading and most of the books I've read are either already movies, children's or YA books that I don't really want to reread or books I just read this year and don't really want to reread yet. Plus I was planning to read it anyway and counting a few graphic novels towards the challenge makes it less intimidating.

message 19: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Lourenço (ssandraa) | 128 comments Book #4 in the Legend trilogy will be out in the Fall of 2019, so I guess I'm using it for this prompt as I'd love to see Legend as a movie.

Linda Varick-cooper | 20 comments Katy wrote: "What I don't understand is how we would know what book we would want turned into a movie before we actually read the book? This one is going to drive me nutsos."

I feel the same. But every year I find some book that I read and think would make a good movie. So I'm going to trust that I will find one in 2019 too!

message 21: by Nadine in NY (new)

Nadine in NY Jones | 9699 comments Mod
Oh how exciting!! I didn't know that Lu was continuing the Legend series!

It's a little weird how the blurb is written though, saying she agreed to it, like it's not her idea?

message 22: by Kelsey (new)

message 23: by Dani (new)

Dani Weyand | 389 comments I guess I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread because how would I know unless I’ve already read the book lol

I think I’d love to see:
Neverworld Wake
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
Agnes Grey (I’d love all the classics to get an updated movie like 2011’s Jane Eyre)
House of Many Ways
Swimming Lessons

message 24: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer T. (jent998) | 231 comments I think Night Film by Marisha Pessl could be an excellent movie.

message 25: by Nathalia K. (new)

Nathalia K. | 9 comments A book that I really liked and hope it becomes a movie is A thousand splendid suns by Khaled Hosseini.

message 26: by Nathalia K. (new)

Nathalia K. | 9 comments “the first day” by marc levy and the sequel “the first night” I think would be good movies too.
When I was reading “The stars shine down” by Sydney Sheldon I imagined it being a movie too.

Fannie D'Ascola | 438 comments Michelle wrote: "I started The Invisible Library series this year for the library prompt, and thought it would make a great TV show/movie. May do the next book in the series for this The Masked City"

Good call, I might do the same.

message 28: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 97 comments How do you choose the book for this promt?
I mean, there are many books I think would be great movies, but obviously I already read them.
How should I know that I want a book to be a movie before reading it?
Or do you guys just re-read a book you liked?

Thegirlintheafternoon When I read Sherri L. Smith's Orleans, I was flabbergasted that it hadn't been turned into a movie.

message 30: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer T. (jent998) | 231 comments I’m thinking about reading that for climate fiction.

Just FYI, American Gods is currently being made into a TV series, the second season is coming out soon!

message 32: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 608 comments I don't know I haven't read it yet but from the description I feel like My Sister, the Serial Killer might make a fun movie?

message 33: by Lindi (new)

Lindi (lindimarie) This might be a little bit of a freebie prompt. Typically most books I really enjoy I'd like to see adapted (even though I don't want them ruined - masochist much?)

I agree with you Kerry, I would LOVE to see All the Light We Cannot See on the big screen. But I'm quite sure no director could do Doerr's words justice.

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1756 comments Nadine wrote: " Kinda hard to know if you want a movie made until you're actually reading the book!!"

I chose some books from my TBR list and read the summaries. If it sounded like maybe it could be a good movie, then I counted it. Like for example, a book about a woman who defected from North Korea and had to make her way to safety would probably be an exciting movie, right? That's The Girl with Seven Names: A North Korean Defector’s Story, which was on my TBR list. Self-help books by Pema Chodron, not so much.

message 37: by SadieReadsAgain (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments Urgh. I don't really do series, and I'm not a big re-reader. I'm just going to take this one as a bit of a free pass, and chose something from my TBR that sounds like it might fit the bill - The Tattooist of Auschwitz. There's rumblings about it being adapted for tv, but it hasn't happened yet and there isn't a movie.

message 38: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Lourenço (ssandraa) | 128 comments I think I found the perfect book for this prompt: P.S. I Still Love You - after watching the To All the Boys I've Loved Before movie, I really want the sequel to be turned into a movie.

message 39: by Joyce (new)

Joyce | 41 comments I read the YA alternate history book Wolf By Wolf thinking this would make a blockbuster film.

message 40: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 190 comments So I'm thinking I'm just going to pick a series that I think should be a movie that I haven't finished yet. So my choice is The Raven King

YES!!!!!!

message 43: by Baroness Ekat (new)

Baroness Ekat (baronessekat) | 117 comments When I read The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper this year I thought it would make a delightful movie in the genre that I've been calling "retiree adventure" - like the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and the 100 Foot Journey.

And I totally envisioned Anthony Hopkins in the role of Arthur.

I would love to see the ACOTAR series on the big screen too! Also, The Lunar Chronicles, which I was hoping to reread soon and could easily count for this prompt now. The rest depends on when I'm actually reading some book and can totally imagine it as a movie, so I'm keeping this prompt blank for now. :)

message 45: by Rachelnyc (new)

Rachelnyc | 186 comments I agree with those that expressed frustration at this prompt! It's nice to get recommendations of what others think but that doesn't necessarily mean that I think it should be made into a movie so it's impossible unless you do a re-read and there is already a re-read prompt!

Ugh! Oh well, I guess I just won't plan this one and hope a side read or something I read for another challenge will fit this.

Lindsey | 3 comments Sarah wrote: "I read Eleanor & Park for the book set in the decade you were born prompt this year, and the whole time I couldn't believe it wasn't already a movie (Shannon Purser was born to play..."

Yes!! That was the first book I thought of for this prompt. I may need to use that one for the reread prompt.

Scythe would make and amazing movie!

message 48: by Teri (last edited Nov 13, 2018 04:07PM) (new)

Teri (teria) | 1554 comments Maybe I'll wait to read Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty until January. Since I think almost all of her books should be movies, maybe I'll think it of this one as well.

And I think the middle-grade Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull should be movies, I imagine the next one in the follow-up Dragonwatch series, Wrath of the Dragon King will work as well.

And why has Kindred by Octavia E. Butler never been made into a movie?

That's a good idea! I also started that series this year, and a new one is coming out in a couple weeks.
