Sara Since I try not to use rereads for my challenge books, I'll take this excuse to reread a favorite, Now to choose...

The Chapter Conundrum (Stacey) | 404 comments I almost never reread books so this will be interesting for me!

I think for this one I'll probably go with THE book that made me interested in reading for pleasure back when all my reading was assigned and that was: Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella! It will be fun to see how much my outlook on this book has changed over 15 or so years! xD

Anabell | 355 comments I now have an excuse to read Harry Potter again... But which one?

(Maybe combine it with the nostalgic one so I can read 2)

I'm planning on rereading the series next year as I haven't in a while. I've found a way to make all 7 fit.

message 5: by Alisia (new)

Alisia (4thhouseontheleft) | 58 comments I wanted to reread both Alias Grace and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell next year before watching the TV mini-series of both, so I will probably choose one of them from this prompt.

I might do the same been a while since I read the entire series from start to finish. What else did you use?

I'm planning
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for an authors debut
-Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for imaginary creature (house elves and basilisk)
-Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for my reread
-Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for the puzzle or game one
-Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for nostalgia (they're all nostalgic for me and this one and the next could be either or)
-Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for over 1 million ratings
-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for a book that includes a wedding (Bill and Fleur)

message 8: by Anabell (new)

Anabell | 355 comments This is great, thanks :-)

I might copy you on this.

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) | 896 comments So many options here! I've been wanting to re-read:

The Scarlet Pimpernel

The Black Arrow

Double Star

And there are lots of others I could count, so we'll just see what I get to before the end of the year and what's left.

message 11: by Katy (new)

Katy M | 963 comments I've been moving David Copperfield from residence to residence for the past 20 years meaning to reread it at some point. I think this is just the opportunity.

message 12: by Kelly (last edited Nov 10, 2018 09:15AM) (new)

Kelly | 95 comments This will be a great category to have available for a reading slump. We'll see where the year takes me, but I've been wanting to read I, Claudius, The Secret History, and The Stranger Beside Me: Ted Bundy: The Shocking Inside Story again!

message 13: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 0 comments I received the beautiful Penguin Drop Cap edition of Pride and Prejudice for my birthday so I will be rereading that.

message 14: by VanesGirl (new)

VanesGirl | 92 comments Definitely i will re-read Gute Geister by Kathryn Stockett - german version of The Help. I loved that book so much ..

message 15: by Nadine in NY (new)

Nadine in NY Jones | 9700 comments Mod
I used to NEVER re-read, but there was a reading challenge category that required it one year, and I discovered that I kind of enjoyed the experience. So I now have a list of 24 books I want to re-read, a mix of classics and old sci-fi. Not sure which one I'll read for this. Maybe The Shadow of the Torturer by Gene Wolfe

message 16: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Lourenço (ssandraa) | 128 comments I will probably re-read The Hunger Games.

message 17: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalyn) | 464 comments I'll probably count an Agatha Christie for this one. My ongoing AC Completist Challenge, which is almost completely rereading for me, stalled this year, so I need to get back in the groove.

message 18: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey | 94 comments Normally Harry Potter but I think I'm going to branch out to my second favorite that I HIGHLY recommend! Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) by Juliet Marillier

message 19: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Fonger (vivian_fonger) | 32 comments I will re-read Pride and Prejudice

message 20: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 608 comments I've been thinking about re- reading The Yearling for a while now. I'm gonna cry.

The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

message 21: by Fannie (new)

Fannie D'Ascola | 438 comments I love rereading books but I try not to with the challenge so it's gonna be a bonus for me. I hesitate between:

Emma
The Caves of Steel
The Eyes of the Dragon
Au bonheur des ogres

I tend to re-read this series slowly throughout the year or over a couple of years. I am currently on book 6. I'll probably steal your prompts :p

message 23: by Lucas (last edited Nov 11, 2018 08:47PM) (new)

Lucas (scarwiz) | 5 comments I've been itching to re-read Good Omens ever since the TV show got announced so I'll probably go with that

message 24: by Lindi (new)

Lindi (lindimarie) I love re-reading books. I always try to read through Harry Potter every year, but I might use Sorcerer's Stone for the nostalgia prompt. I always love re-reading Gone with the Wind. However it's so dang long!

message 25: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1756 comments I'm not much of a re-reader, I did enjoy revisiting His Dark Materials before the new book came out but that was a very long gap and there was a lot that just went over my head when I was a teen.

However I do keep saying I want to re-read the whole Women of the Otherworld series, with all the short stories in order. So maybe this will push me to start that. Bitten is the first book but there might be a prequel I should start with.

message 26: by Rachael (new)

Rachael | 136 comments My all-time favourite book is A Murder Is Announced by Agatha Christie. It's such a gentle read, and no matter what mood I am in I always enjoy reading it

message 27: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) I don't do much re-reading - there are too many new books I want to get to - but I have been going back and rereading some Stephen King so that will likely be the route I go for this category. I remember really enjoying the audiobook for Duma Key, so may revisit the book.

message 28: by Maja (new)

Maja - BibliophiliaDK ✨ (bibliophiliadk) | 35 comments I don't really like this prompt... I prefer to try to eliminate my TBR list, not reread books... Think I will just go for Harry Potter, I love that series, and it should be quick to finish

message 29: by Milena (new)

Milena (milenas) | 1199 comments Lots of Harry Potter re-reads. I have only read the books once, so I think I will try the audiobooks this year.

message 30: by Sara Grace (new)

Sara Grace (bassoonsara) | 124 comments When doing a re-reading, I like to switch it up and check out an audiobook! That way it's a little different from the first time reading :)

Also I read an annotated version of Pride and Prejudice a couple years ago and it was a nice way to re-read but get something new out of it! (I think it was 745 pages!!)

message 31: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Heaney | 210 comments I never ever re-read but I'd be keen to use either Station Eleven or The Wasp Factory. A couple of my all time favourite books.

message 32: by Tina (new)

Tina (trwriteratwork) | 42 comments This year I reread the Throne of Glass series in anticipation of the final book. And several others. I'm starting to like rereading old favorites from time to time. In 2019, I'm hoping to reread The Lunar Chronicles (read it way back in 2016) and Ignite Me so I can continue with the next installment in the series.

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3) by Marissa Meyer Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer Ignite Me (Shatter Me, #3) by Tahereh Mafi

message 33: by Rachelnyc (new)

Rachelnyc | 186 comments I'm not a big re-reader since there are so many books out there I haven't read yet but I'm actually looking forward to luxuriating in an old favorite.

I'm thinking either To Kill a Mockingbird or The Handmaid's Tale or another book I had been thinking of reading again is Flowers in the Attic. I devoured this series when I was a kid but I have hesitated returning to it in case it doesn't live up to the memory...

message 34: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (acordobes) | 1 comments Twenties girl!!! By Sophie kinsella I can’t wait to reread this book. I’ve never laughed OUT LOUD so much from a book. I recommend to every woman in my life no matter their age. Read it, you won’t be disappointed!

message 35: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Starflight | 987 comments I dislike the reread prompts because I generally like to link to reviews of the books I've read for the challenge on my DA journal, and I've already left reviews on most of the books I love! Going for an old favorite from high school to fulfill this prompt, Here There Be Unicorns.

message 36: by SadieReadsAgain (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments I don't really do re-reads. My TBR is way too big, I feel like I'm wasting time reading something I've read before. But a look at my "favourites" shelf has got me thinking. There are ones on there that I read over ten years ago that might be interesting to revisit...and now I can't decide! I'm stuck between Cleaned Out, Spin Cycle, Prozac Nation and If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things. I think I'm going to go for If Nobody Speaks... because I can read it in tandem with the Radio 4 Bookclub episode where Jon McGregor talks about writing the book.

Sara Grace wrote: "When doing a re-reading, I like to switch it up and check out an audiobook! That way it's a little different from the first time reading :)"

The audiobook is a good shout!

I don´t do rereads often, either. But I am so old that there are some books I haven´t read since the last millennium ;)
Edit: I actually do some rereads, when I read for my youngest son...

I also am not a fan of rereads, but you gave me an idea that kinda is the opposite of this prompt. I have a few classics that I read when I was young that I hated, but I think I just didn't appreciate the style. I may reread one that I think will be a favorite if I give it another chance. In particular I'm thinking The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, or Les Misérables

I read The 3 Musketeers as an adult. Might I suggest you read one of the other two. Because I thought it was awful and I don't think you'll appreciate it any better, but of course, everyone's tastes are different.

message 40: by May (new)

May Mcvicker (maymcvicker) The Night Circus will be mine. I have been a reread type but this book I fell in love with and hope it still holds that same magic when I read it again

There is the risk that a re-read might ruin a previously loved book! But if it's a book you didn't really "get" when you were younger, it can be a good experience (though maybe not with the Musketeers...).

I was forced to read The Great Gatsby and Catcher in the Rye when I was a teenager, and they both went over my head. I was more used to Babysitters Club, so it was too big a leap! But I re-read them when I was older, as I didn't want to write off books people were so passionate about. Gatsby in particular is now a personal favourite, and I enjoyed Catcher a lot too.

Maybe I'll give one of them a try and have Harry Potter on stand by just in case.

message 43: by Lindi (new)

Lindi (lindimarie) I read The Time Traveler's Wife in high school and thought it was so wonderfully done. I've been wanting to re-read it for quite some time now, but like you said Sarah - I'm worried I won't love it as much as I used to! Maybe I'll just do it, it's shorter than I remember.

message 44: by Tina (last edited Nov 14, 2018 01:57PM) (new)

Tina (tinatome) Either going with Brave New World by Aldous Huxley (it's my favorite and I read it every year anyway) or The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King (close second and I haven't read it in a long time)

And now I've just seen someone mention Harry Potter... *sigh* Decisions, decisions...

message 45: by ✨ A ✨ (new)

✨ A ✨ (az_youread) I'm going to be rereading clockwork princess

This was a funny one!

My favorite by her is Can You Keep a Secret?

message 47: by Nancy (new)

Nancy | 5 comments My re-read has to be Tai-Pan First book that made me cry! Dirk and his love Mai-Mai. Well-actually Charlotte's Web was the first book that made me cry----but Tai Pan was the first book I read as an adult that moved me this way!

message 48: by Soph ♡ (new)

Soph ♡ | 130 comments Really not looking forward to this prompt! Once I've read a book I'm usually done with it. I won't get any enjoyment out of reading it again as I know what is going to happen.. Maybe I'll re-read a book that I enjoyed during my childhood.

message 49: by Jess (new)

Jess Penhallow | 427 comments I'm really not a re-reader at all. I will probably read something from my childhood that I've completely forgotten the plot of so at least it feels fresh.

The Phoenix and the Carpet springs to mind. I remember nothing about it apart from what is in the title (e.g. a phoenix, a carpet and some children).

The Magic Faraway Tree is another but I have a feeling this might skew a bit young.

message 50: by Christina (new)

Christina (crissytina) | 83 comments I had planned on re-reading the Sue Grafton series in 2019 as those are the books that got me hooked on mysteries, so I think I'll be using A is for Alibi.
