Chelsea LaCourse Is JK Rowling a Goodreads author? I have seen author pages with the "goodreads author" label in the upper right hand corner of their bio. I have also seen author pages with boxes that say "such and such is not a goodreads author...yet." Rowling has neither of these. Thanks!

Vi | 184 comments No, she's not a goodreads author. She doesn't have the symbol on her author page.

Check below the book title and description, just in the middle, there you can find several covers corresponding to the books' different editions.
Choose the one of the book you have and click on "switch to this edition".
If yours isn't there, I think you can ask for help here:

message 156: by Bea (last edited Sep 22, 2014 03:50AM) (new)

Bea Pia, if you switch to another edition, you could miss out on the number of pages your book actually has, which is important for Big Book tickets and some tasks which have requirements for certain numbers in the page count or the actual page count. Better to have an alternate edition added by a librarian.

Yes, that's why I told her to choose the cover of the book she has, and if that wasn't available, to get a librarian to add her edition.

See The Rules #11

The individual records are very complicated and some editions have been combined into anthologies in error. You will need an experienced librarian to correct the records before they may be used.

It includes " Note: Books with the genre "children" or "kids" NOT found in AR Bookfinder MAY be used for this task. "

If you look on the main book page, off to the right (if they are there) - you will see a list of genres - that is what they mean by main page genre....some books may not have any if people haven't tagged them in certain categories. Keep in mind these change so if your book doesn't have an overwhelming number of the specific genre, you may want to get it approved while it has the genre you're looking for, as it may drop off periodically! Good luck!

Melissa (balletbookworm) | 915 comments Hello,
I finally sorted out how Peebee's task 25.4 works (much easier than I realized - too much overthinking on my part, lol) and I would like to move a book I claimed for 5.10 to that task and claim a different book for 5.10. I know it all needs reposted but how exactly do I word it?

Do I do it as two posts? Do one now and say, "hey, I've already claimed 5.10 as points but I need to change my claimed book to this book", a re-post essentially, and then do a second post for 25.4 later when I complete it? Or wait until I've got 25.4 done and post it all together as one post? Just trying to make it as least-annoying for the mods as possible. Thanks for any advice!

message 172: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8954 comments i'd finish the other book for 25.4, and then post that task and re-post 5.10

normally say something at the top, book substituion from 5.10 to 25.4 9 or something like that

It's not so much that there's a formula for this, as that it needs to be very clear what you're doing. As Dee said, you should get the other book done for 25.4 before doing anything - there would be no point at all in announcing your change until you're actually ready to post. The mods do not keep track of partial posts.

When you've read both books for 25.4, you could start out by saying that you're moving book X from 5.10, then either say you're not replacing it at this time or listing a new book for the task. If the former, please remember to deduct 5 points from your total.

Then post task 25.4, just like any other task post, giving any required info, etc. After you list book X, you might want to add "(moved from task 5.10)," just to be clear.

Pia Hi! I have another question.

For task 25.3 I'm reading 2 books by the same author, who is a GRA.

Do I get one ticket or 2 tickets for this task?

Thanks for your help.

Melissa (balletbookworm) | 915 comments Hiya, I posted this on the task help thread for Andy P's task The Power of Three but Andy suggested I ask the moderators if it would count.

The first option on Andy's task is:
Option 1. For this option you must choose a book written by a single author. No co-authors, multiple authors, or editors of anthologies.
The book should be written by an author who uses his or her full name, first, middle, and last.
Examples: Mary Higgins Clark or John Dickson Carr. (Carr also writes under the name Carter Dickson, but books using this pseudonym will NOT work for this option). Also, initials will not work - for example, S.J. Bolton will NOT work.

I posted that I read Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel by Emily St. John Mandel. According to her website, "St. John" is her middle name.

Andy was concerned whether "St. John" would be considered one word. In my opinion, the task only calls for "first, middle, last" name with no specification on hyphenation or those given family names like St. John as middle names.

Thanks much!

The convention for SRC purposes is that if there are two words separated by a space, they are counted as separate words. In this specific instance, there's no restriction in the task on how many words can be in the middle name, so here the fact that it is a 2 word middle name will not invalidate the use of this author.

In general, they may be used. The book you choose should be read for its text. Some cookbooks are text-rich and read like chef autobiographies or restaurant histories.

There may be some that could be considered coffee table books- more like an art book. Be wary of any that contain more photos or illustrations than text.

A good start for you would be to read Welcome Newcomers in the Moderators Announcements section. This will give you links to a basic introduction to the challenge, the rules, posting requirements, etc.

You do not have to complete every task, nor do you have to work on tasks in any particular order.

If you go to this post Welcome Newcomers, it will answer a lot of questions and also give you links to all the guidelines and rules.

If you mean what the tasks are themselves, I would still read all of that but then afterwards you can find the Fall tasks here.

Hope that helps!

Amazon has a print edition with 403 pages? I don't see that on the site.
isbn 978-1479153015 The Force of Wind
Do you have the isbn? The only print edition I found is published by CreateSpace with the isbn above.

According to the author the book is 85K words- about 250 pages

If you read an ebook follow the directions in the Rules to determine page numbers.

Colette, All the tasks have a specific help thread to themselves. If you are looking at the task list, underneath each task there is a link that says help thread and its there for each thread. You can post your question there for a specific task. For example, this is the thread for 20.9..
