If the edition of the book you are reading does not exist on GR AND you belong to SRC, you can reach a librarian via this thread - anyone with librarian status...

Okay, thank you so much for your help!

Is there either a way to add re-read dates in GoodReads (I have not managed to find a place to put that information)?
And if there isn't, is it necessary to change the dates (showing that I read it during the challenge) to reflect the re-read? Or can I just post it to the finished tasks thread?

This whole re-read thing has been brought up about a million times in the Feedback Forum, and I do not believe that GR is going to do anything about it. The workaround that many people use is to use a different edition - if you do that, you preserve the old "read" date on the first edition and also have a new entry. So, if you read the trilogy in paper or ebook the first time and are now listening to the audiobook, that's easy. If it's the same edition and you have issues with the idea of adding a different one, then I think you'll just have to live with it.
And, as far as the SRC goes, you can just post it to the finished tasks thread.
If you like to keep data for use later, you can always set up a shelf for books read for SRC Fall 2014 and add it to that shelf. That way, even if you don't change the dates, you'll know later that you read it for this challenge as well.

Thanks!!

Should I just post the book with the information and let the mod figure it out or do I need to get approval from the task creator first?
I'm trying to figure out what will count as an outside source for the author's birthday month? I can't find it explicitly stated anywhere but she infers when it is on her blog, twitter and facebook.

I will send a message to Rebecca about this.
Normally, though, something more definitive than an inference would be needed.l

After getting a Readerboard name, would it be better (easier for the mods) if I do one post listing all the tasks completed so far or would you prefer each in a separate post?

You can do multiple tasks in each post, but just put them in numerical order...smallest to largest. Don't forget book links ("add book/author" link on top of comment box) and any other required things in each task. And if it has "childrens" as a genre just include the information from ARBookfind. Looks like "IL: MG+ - BL: 5.1 - AR Pts: 10.0"

Vol.1
Vol.2
Vol.3
Vol.4
Vol.5

From reading the descriptions, although these books are in a series, it sounds as if each is complete in itself, so they would work separately. Please keep in mind that graphic novels cannot be used for most tasks in the 20,25,30, and 50 point groups.

Ohhhh, I have ended up there so often...

So part 1 = 85 pages
part 2 = 73 pages
part 3 = 92 pages
Total = 250 pages
Does that work, even though the 3 parts may be separate "books", if reading all 3 parts total more than the page count (and the book otherwise meets criteria for a task/challenge) it is acceptable to do? Thanks for clarifying.
Tara Jo wrote: "I read somewhere in the rules that if reading a serial novella, you had to read all parts for it to count. If that's the case, is it okay that portions of each book are under the 100 minimum page ..."
If it's a serial, then it's the cumulative pages that matters, because that's the book. It's analogous to reading a book with chapters - you don't need each chapter to be 100 pages, just the book.

er...I'm not sure this is the right place to ask this question (or if it is a more general GoodReads question rather than SRC).
Is there any way a person can find all his book reviews in one place ? Whether that is via GoodReads or via GoodReads/SRC ? I was kind of hoping that the "My Books" link at the top of the page might have a distinction between Books I've reviewed and books I haven't... Anybody out there knows this ?

I decided to try something when I read this question and it worked! If you pull up your "Read" shelf, you can click on settings for that shelf up at the top and it gives you the option to put your reviews on the shelf. Save the settings and then click "review" as your sorting option and all the books with your reviews come to the top. I'd never added it before because I thought it meant reviews from everyone, but it turns out it's just for books you personally have reviewed. It makes the shelf really long, so i probably won't keep it set that way, but it's quick enough to add it when you want to see your own reviews.
Another way, if you don't want to tinker with your shelves, is to go to your own profile page. Under the picture, you'll see some info including the number of reviews you've done. Click on that and it will bring up a list of all of them - this includes books you've rated without writing a review, but the ones with written reviews are listed first.

That's way easier, Sandy, thanks! I should look at my profile page more often;)

Chris

At present I'm hiding the GoodReads Page behind the library management system page and producing an occasional outburst of information-science inspired bollocks before going back to searching for American books with Yellow on which I've not read before with a decent amount of pages in it. Gotta love books & gals & gals who love books LOL

I read Havana Nocturne: How the Mob Owned Cuba & Then Lost it to the Revolution for that task - yellow lettering, set in Cuba and US, 416 pages - I enjoyed it.

John Irving might be a possibility if you like him. Most of his books are long and some have yellow on the cover;)

Thanks Morgan. :o)

I just realized it's on comments to, but beside the add book/author it has (some html is ok) and actually shows a few handy ones if you need it as reference. I thought it was just on review posting, so I learned something too. lol.

You can just note in your post that the AR Bookfinder designation is UG.

Sorry for the delay but this one is giving us some problems. Magazines really don't fit the challenge. However, GR has decided to consider this something that it will treat as a book and we generally try to go by GR. So, if you feel that this is really appropriate for the challenge and that there is 100+ pages of text, then it's up to you. I did note that all the reviews talked quite a bit about all the photography in the magazine, so please keep in mind that this is a challenge for "reading" not "looking," so keep in mind the rules about coffee table books. Also, the challenge rules require that a book be read in its entirety, not just the articles that interest/appeal to you.

which is the GR policy - so if a librarian while cleaning up comes across those in the database, they could easily be deleted

#1. When reading Kindle books with Real Page Numbers, do we use the Kindle edition for page number count or are we supposed to refer to the mass market paperback (or paperback, or then hardcover per the rules)? Example of GR listing for the book I'm reading: Edge of Eternity
#2. If the edition of the book I'm reading does not exist on Goodreads with an accurate page count, how do I contact a librarian to correct that problem? Here is the actual Kindle book I am reading as listed on Amazon which has the same ASIN but a higher page count than is reflected in the GR listing above.
