I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't this. I have a personal challenge to read the Goodreads choice awards for 2017 and previous years. I noticed Colleen Hoover has won for romance for the last 3 years and is in the finals for romance this year, so I thought I would try it. I generally try to stay away from reviews or summaries of a book until I read it. I've found that I like to be totally surprised.

I enjoyed Without Merit, I think it is more general fiction rather than romance. Yes, there was a romance but it was more of an angst filled teenage romance than the romance that I was expecting to read.

The story follows a family that is filled with strained relationships. The story follows a 17 yr old girl as she falls in love. The story deals with family dynamics, depression, and LGBT issues. I enjoyed it and might try another of Colleen Hoover's books.

I've only read one of hers (It Ends with Us) but it was a 4* for me - there was a lot more to it than the romance and she writes well

Good to hear... I'm thinking I'm going to try out some more of hers. I really enjoyed it even though it was a story about a very heavy topic.
