Amy Ingalls | 3783 comments Updated message 8 (15/40)-- a novel that inspired a common phrase of idiom-- The Sign of The Four

Of course Sherlock inspired many phrases, but this novel is the first mention of this gem:
“How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?”

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #30 (amateur detective) - Lord John and the Private Matter by Diana Gabaldon. I typically love the Outlander series, so I was a bit surprised when the story for this book didn't grab me. It focuses on Lord John Grey, who is an important character in Outlander. The historical accuracy was present, and I enjoyed the characters, but I just couldn't connect with the discussions of soldiering. Still worth reading for the Outlander canon. 3.5 stars
