Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #49 (common idiom) - Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. The thing I most enjoyed about this book was the descriptions of Singapore - it definitely makes me want to visit! The characters were rather annoying to me. Rachel just seemed rather naive, and Nick was cluelessly privileged. Very different from the movie, so I'm actually glad I saw it first. It definitely became more interesting the second half, so I'll still eventually read the second book in the series. Worth reading. 3.5 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #2 (published 2019) - Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee by Casey Cep. Overall, this book was fascinating and incredibly well-written! I was riveted until the last 30 pages or so when the book, necessarily given the subject matter, got bogged down in Harper Lee's writer's block. But the remainder of the book was enjoyable, tantalizing, and factual without being dry. I received this book as a free giveaway in exchange for my honest review. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #22 (love in title) - The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende. This book was so good, and I appreciated that almost every main character had to overcome some societal taboo in order to continue with their pursuit of love. Allende's writing is amazing, so poetic and descriptive but in balance with the plot. My only criticism was that Ichimei in his later years could have been fleshed out more. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #28 (imaginary creature) - The Last Last-Day-of-Summer by Lamar Giles. Overall, this was entertaining. I liked the zany adventures, the robot was a plus, and some of the more real topics touched on were done very well. However, I felt the beginning where the author tried to explain the world was a bit complicated. I felt like I was dropped into the middle of a series. Worth reading! 3.5 stars
