Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #3 (fav prompt - movie in 2018) - Boy Erased: A Memoir of Identity, Faith, and Family by Gerrard Conley. I have mixed feelings about this memoir. The writing is good, and I'm glad the author was able to realize his dream. I did not enjoy the jumping around in the story - it made it less cohesive. What he experienced was terrible, but I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it really didn't. I grew up in a relatively middle-path church and was educated in very conservative schools, so this also brought back some of the fights I would get into and the crap conclusions supposedly religious people would jump to about anyone who was different. I'm not recommending, and I'm not rejecting this book either. 3 stars

A book featuring an amateur detective
Callander Square, by Anne Perry

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #24 (sweet or bitter in title) - Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler. Maybe it was the author's plan, or maybe just her writing progressed, but the writing was half-formed at the start and became much clearer towards the end of the book. Either way, it made for a confused beginning. Like I said, she might have been mirroring the progression of the main character, but I did not find it incredibly enjoyable. I did like the description of the restaurant life. and her descriptions of food, taste, and drink were impeccable. I'm intrigued enough to check out the show. Worth reading. 3.5 stars
