Tony Carrigan Hello

my 10yo son is currently working his way through the Halo novelisations (based on the well known Xbox games). This is his first venture into Sci-Fi and I am keen to encourage him to branch out into other material (especially books that are not based on computer games).

Any recommendations? I'm trying to avoid novels that contain
- adult content (e.g. some of William C Dietz's stuff)
- politics (e.g. Heinlein, Starship Troopers etc)

E.g. has anyone read the Legacy Fleet novels by Nick Webb?

Thanks
Tony

David Holmes | 481 comments My shelf is full of fantasy novels that would be suitable for a 10yo, but pretty much none of the sci-fi would be appropriate.

The closest thing I can think of is Ender's Game, which was the first sci-fi book I read, probably when I was 11 or so. Might be okay for a precocious 10yo.

Trike Lots of Space Opera books in the thread Anna linked to, a few I’ve given to my younger cousins.
