Ilona | 4698 comments It's time to set your 2019 goal!

How many books are you going to challenge yourself to read? Create your own discussion topic and tell us what your goal is. Then, throughout the year, track your progress.

How to create your discussion topic for your challenge:
- Choose how many books you would like to read
- Go to the appropriate folder (we have expanded them this year!):

1-25 books
26-50 books
51-75 books
76-100 books
101-200 books
200+ books

- Click "new topic" near the top of the page

- In the "topic" box, write the name of your topic. We encourage you to come up with an original title, but it should have both your name and the number of books you plan to read.
- In the comment box, write your first post, and click “post”
- Bookmark the topic in your browser!

And you're all set! Post here if you have any questions.

Good luck to all!

Tracey I tried to post my 2019 challenge, but it keeps telling me to verify my address. I'm getting emails from GR, so I'm not sure what else I'm required to do. Any idea?

You could try the following:
To verify your email address, click on your profile picture and select Account Settings. Then navigate to your Settings tab. If your email address isn't verified, you'll see a red message next to it - click "re-send verification email" and follow the instructions in the email you receive.

If this doesn't solve the problem or if you don't see the the "re-send verification email" option, I suggest that you contact Goodreads by sending an email to [email protected]

Tracey Thank you! I found where I was supposed to verify my email address.

message 7: by Susan (new)

Susan | 1 comments The system is not allowing me to load 21-50 books. It was so simple to set a challenge the last two years. Why is it so complicated this year. I am truly fed up.

I personally do not. Maybe you could post this in the Let's Chat thread or make a topic about in that folder?

Susan, can you tell me exactly what goes wrong? Are you not able create a topic in the Personal Challenge: 26-50 folder?

message 10: by Robyn (new)

Robyn | -15 comments Hi all,
I have joined, unjoined, and lurked around this group for YEARS! I always come back at the beginning of the year, track everything religiously for a few months, then lose interest. (anyone else guilty of this???) Well this year my reading goal will be 5 books a month for a total of 60 books. I usually hit my reading goal what I don't do is stay on goodreads to actually track them! So part two of this goal, to stay in the group and on the sight throughout the year :)

Chris Switucha | 11 comments I did very poorly in 2018 not really sure what happened so try again for 52 books

Yes, I use Google Sheets. I just began using it in November, so I am still modifying the various sheets. It is perfect!

Ilona | 4698 comments Ren wrote: "What is the difference in setting up 2019 personal challenge and 2019 member corner?"

Hi Ren, most members use their personal challenge topic to track the books they read and to interact with other members.
The member corner is your space in our group. A topic that you can use to track your books, challenges, and other statistics, and that you can set up the way you want it.

Feel free to have a look at my personal challenge topic
and member corner to see how I use them.

Does this answer your question?

I think that there was a temporary glitch in the system. The links seem to be working fine now.

Darlene, your personal challenge (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) is in the right folder, but we don't create a separate list. All personal challenges can be found in the folders that I linked in the first post of this topic.

If you go to the page of the book you are reading, you click on the arrow next to Want to Read and select Currently Reading, it will then show up on your profile.
When you are finished, but don't want to count it for this year's challenge, you can delete the dates in the review by going to the books page again and clicking on Edit close to MY ACTIVITY. There you can change the dates or set it back to the default settings. If you set day month and year of Date finished to --, it should no longer count for your challenge.

Hope this helps!

On your profile page, you can click on View Challenge on the right top corner, underneath 2019 Reading Challenge.
You will then see a box with the text You have read xx of xx books, and next to it a small Edit button. There you can edit the total number of books.
Hope this helps!

Just a question to the mods though. May I include thick technical software books in my list if I read them from cover to cover?

Yes, you can definitely count them! It is up to which book you do or do not count for the personal challenge.

Claire (clairejoanne_x) | 14 comments I am trying to post my 2019 challenge on through the app on my iPhone. I am typing the title in the correct box and writing a 4 line paragraph in the comment section and pressing post when I have finished and each time it is telling me that I need to write a topic in the comment section and stating error.

I have come of the app and gone back into the 26-50 link to try and post again however not it’s telling me there is an error.

How can this be fixed please?

Sometimes the app does not like to cooperate. I never use it. If I do go on Goodreads on my device, I log-in on the browser. You can try that or wait till you can get to a computer.

Hi Fiona, I am sure that there are people that read your reviews, maybe they just t don't comment. There are a few things you can do to increase visibility though. If you post a new comment, your topic will go to the top of the page in that folder, so I would advice you not to reserve all comments in advance, and just post once you finished a book.
There is also an option somewhere in your account settings to show comments that you post in groups on the homepages of your friends. This way they see that you wrote a review in this group.
And third, you could post a link to your review when you update your challenges. Hopefully this will help to get more activity in your thread. Good luck!
