GR Reading Challenge goal: 60 books
5 per month is achievable. Anything else is a bonus!

So this is my attempt to 'organise' my reading for the coming year, after crying that I missed so many group reads last year and watching my TBR list explode.

Annerlee | 2872 comments Thinking about March reading plans: I've finished the first badge for the Film challenge (YAY) so I'm going to shift focus a little this month.

There's a group read for Salt to the Sea, a buddy read for Perdido Street Station and a challenge / author discussion for Fear

These will be my main books this month. Need to finish up books from February too, so that's more than enough!

I've just got sidetracked into End of Watch as well, so I NEED to finish that one too (Thanks a lot Sarah! All your fault - lol)

Annerlee | 2872 comments March summary

I completed 3 books this month including a non-fiction computing book which I'm pleased about. One of my goals this year was to read more non-fiction.

I'm still reading 4 others, so carrying those over to April.

Perdido Street Station is a long haul book. I'm still interested but it'll be one to keep returning to rather than an immersive read for me. It's so weird!

'Salem's Lot is a re-read for me. I wanted to read it more slowly and savour it (enjoying the illustrations along the way) which I'm doing. I'm half way through, just before the action ramps up and that feels like a good place to pause. I've left 'the Lot' on a cliff edge with most characters still breathing ... for now anyway!

I've started reading The Android's Dream in anticipation of the YLTO April themed read. I'm leading a YLTO discussion for the first time. The book is good fun and typical Scalzi which is cool! He likes his memorable first sentences, that's for sure!

Also listening to Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 1 which is interesting but slow to start.

Oh and I picked up Legion: Skin Deep from the library - the cover is so striking! It also happens to fill'hands on the cover' category for the annual challenge, which is a complete accident on my part! It's also a good fun read, a bit different (heading for the quirky shelf I think)

Oops. That's 5 books in progress, not 4!

Wyrd Sisters has fallen by the wayside for now. Maybe later.

Annerlee | 2872 comments Books I've acquired in March.

A book about evolution which involves finding a rare fish... a missing link. It was a freebie at work and in my office drawer so can't remember the title

From library:
Salt to the Sea Can't do the March themed group read now, but still want to read it before it's due back.
The Silent Land
The Lathe of Heaven A short read - for toppler possibly?

Books from my neighbour:
The Plantagenets: The Kings That Made Britain. Would fit a challenge category
Steppenwolf... possibly sometime but not just now.
Whitechapel Mary ... not sure about this one.

Annerlee | 2872 comments May's here already

April was a productive reading month for me. This thread is paying off - it's helping me to remember where I'm at and to plan more realistically. I've already transferred some reading goals to June and July to stay realistic and not overburden myself.

Again, there are a few books left unread and unfinished from April too plus some new and shiny challenges to take part in : )
It was also world book day last week and I've gained three books from the free bookstall. Hope to read those soon.
The Blackhouse (Lewis Trilogy #1) by Peter May A fish caught in time the search for the coelacanth by Samantha Weinberg The Girl Who Wasn't There by Ferdinand von Schirach

My colleague has recommended a few books including
Pet Sematary by Stephen King Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts

I still have library books hanging about that need to be read or returned soon
The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin The Silent Land by Graham Joyce Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys Legion Skin Deep (Legion, #2) by Brandon Sanderson

And I need to finish Perdido Street Station if it kills me! I'm two thirds of the way through.

(And another thing... )
I'm listening to another audiobook because the battery on my Kindle died and I had two hours to kill. Must get back to it at some point, but the plot isn't complex so I can probably dip in and out of it no problem (lol)
Vanguard (The Genesis Fleet, #1) by Jack Campbell

So that's my May!

message 28: by Annerlee (last edited Jun 28, 2019 12:57AM) (new)

Annerlee | 2872 comments June was an eventful month for me, having left my married home and struck out on my own (after 30 years) on the 13th of the month.

I've been good to myself, reading what I want rather than following a plan, but I'll try to think back and record what I did read.

I finished Gwendy's Button Box last night at the library. It was ok - 3 stars from me.

Currently reading Lethal White at just over 30% on my Kindle,This is my bedtime read. It's not a bad book, but it's not keeping me up either. At the moment, I'm just not interested in Robin's marital and Strike's girlfriend problems... so there.

I started Northanger Abbey but am no rush to continue

The most promising book at the moment is one I borrowed from the book window ledge in the staff room (work). It's historical fiction but it's name escapes me at the moment. I've read the first few pages and it feels promising.

Oh and I re-read Mort - which cheered me up no end.

Annerlee | 2872 comments This was a good idea for 2019 until life got in the way in mid June. I haven't had the Internet at home since then, so it's been hard keeping this thread up to date and difficult keeping in touch with the YLTO gang.

I'm going to start another thread for 2020 but it'll be more laid back, at least until I get more settled. I have confidence that 2020 will be a positive year - so here goes with the plan.
