This is another series I tried Kindling a couple years ago, but wasn't in the mood at the time... now I want to audiobook it in a group :)

Yep! I really liked her Heartstrikers series.

Hoping to join in this one too! I like the sound of something fun and sassy.

I'm also loving the tight schedule. Sometimes when I'm really into something, I just keep going, unable to stop until I reach the end.

I finished already. It was a really fun book. Looking to forward to discussing once everyone starts.

I’ve already read the first story I’ll give my thoughts tomorrow but it was okay nothing too exciting although I do love the magic in this book

I'm in! I started it yesterday and i like it.

In! Started yesterday and got through most of book 1. Love the magic system :)

I started it this morning and I'm not super far into it yet but I already like the writing style. It's light and quirky and just what I need right now.

The last 2 audiobooks are available on Hoopla... useful info for next month, anyway...

started and flew through 10 chapters. this is funny with an interesting magic system. A little backstory of Eli, Josef, and Gin and how they came together will be great. A great move on Renaud's part, though am not sure if his intentions are as noble as he told everyone.

This book was great... some real Heartstriker vibes in here with the spirits... can't wait to continue... talk more later...

Eli's treatment of Spirits reminds me of October Daye talking to the knowes, actually... everybody is always like "how did you do that?"

I really don't have much to say... I liked the book... story flew by, like the characters, like the spirits, want to see where it goes next... if I didn't need to wait for you guys, I'd have probably continued already...

Same as Iain, I finished but don't have a lot to say. I love the idea that everything has a spirit; that same idea is also heavily featured in Heartstrickers.

It's good we only have 2 weeks between each book, otherwise I would have ditched the BR and binged to whole thing :p

I'm about 2/3 of the way through and enjoying it. It's a nice, light read. I should finish later today.

Finished book one. That was fluffy fun. (view spoiler)[Everyone got crazy powerful at the end there. I'm sure we'll learn more about demon seeds, the mysterious white lady and a couple other questions I have over the series. I also got definite Heartstriker vibes both with the spirit magic and with Eli trying to talk his way out of everything. Pretty neat sword Josef has! (hide spoiler)]

I was a bit iffy when I read, I think I like the concept too much that I was expecting a lot from the first book and while Eli and his gang did intrigue me I didn’t feel as hooked like I did with Riyria

Who knows it might improve next time but it was a weird one I guess I was expecting too much

I'm going to be late for book two. Need to finish up my current read.

I'm on chapter 12, which looks to be the halfway point... I don't like some of the council characters, but I'm liking the direction the story has taken recently...

I think I’m through ch 5. I’m liking the book a lot so far. (view spoiler)[Very cool we are jumping right in with little preamble. Miranda is in a tight spot so that will be interesting to see how she gets out of it. I’m honestly surprised she just didn’t leave when she had the chance. I like that we are leaning a bit more about the spirit magic, that there’s more than two flavors. Also intrigued about the demon seed, though based on the books title I bet we get more of that in book 3 instead. (hide spoiler)]

I was unsettled by the direction of the story for much of the middle... much darker than the first book... but I was relatively happy by the end...

I'm about half way through (it's hard to tell when reading an omnibus version on Kindle) and the threads are FINALLY starting to come together. Somewhere in Ch 11 (view spoiler)[I keep pronouncing Gaol as "Goal" in my head lol Seems like there may be a plot within a plot in the Spirit Court. I am enjoying Eli's story more than Miranda's at the moment so hopefully now that the characters are coming together the threads will merge and we can get on with the heist :D (hide spoiler)]

I've made a start on spirit rebellion and after a long break I'm getting the hang of it, I also remember what happened in the last book although some of it is coming back

Chapter 1 was interesting, we get to see Eli's childhood and we get an explanation on how he stopped melinor in the previous book


Chapter 2 Interesting to see the mages and the politics here I'm curious how Miranda will deal with this as I remember liking her in the last book although I disagree with her here


Chapter 3 I'm wondering who Nico and Joshua are since that rollercoaster left a lot of questions and I'm sure this book will answer them soon (hide spoiler)]

Overall so far so good I hope the story is better than the first and for some reason despite the easy writing and the brilliant magic system, it didn't click for me like there was something missing


Let's hope this does it for me.

I just finished and quite liked it. The story hooked me more than the first book and you can see how Aaron already grew as a writer. 4 stars.

(view spoiler)[I think what's surprised me is I was expecting something along a heist from these stories and that's not these books at all. Still really cool meeting both Eli's biological father and the one that helped him become a thief. Based on the next book's title I hope it fills in the gap about demons. It seems like Niko might be more resistant to the demon's influence than average. And I'd like to learn more about this Lady that seems to be Eli's patron. Is she a type of god in this world? Seems that way. (hide spoiler)]

I finished a bit back. I liked it overall but (view spoiler)[hope the villains become a little more complex as the series progresses. So far it’s been them just wanting power for powers sake. My favorite segments so far have been when Eli and Miranda team up so hope that continues and evolves. (hide spoiler)]

I'm planning to start The Spirit Eater tonight. With that title I hope we get more info about Niko.

Ch 1 (view spoiler)[I am an idiot lol I was so focused on the title being for Niko I completely forgot about other demon seeds! That sucks what happened to Slorn's wife. It should make for an interesting battle at the end though. That's going to be a tough opponent to get past.

Loved that in the prologue we saw Niko and Josep's meeting. I wonder if her memories are permanently gone or just being suppressed by her demon. (hide spoiler)]

I finished today. I listened to it at work so don’t really have chapter by chapter breakdown but for the whole thing. (view spoiler)[I like this one less than the others because the stakes were higher and part of what made me really like the others was how light they felt. I liked getting a deeper glimpse into some of the supporting characters especially Niko. Love the reveal at the end though I saw the father coming the mother was new. It will be interesting to see what effect Niko fighting off the demon overlord will have on the focus of the series. (hide spoiler)]

Ch 4 (view spoiler)[I'm really enjoying Eli's story thread at the moment. The idea of Home was pretty great. I'd live there! Not thrilled with Miranda's story line yet. (hide spoiler)]

Agreed... it feels a bit harsh, but I don't feel like the series has delivered on the lighthearted promise of the first book, where Eli just flitted around in the face of serious matters... he still does that, but the serious matters are harder to ignore...

(view spoiler)[I thought Binaj was his father with that letter in the 2nd book, but it was hard to tell when he became an orphan flitting around.... Sara was interesting, tho, like you said... and the way he had that 150k bounty added to his 98k bounty was funny...

This thing with the Shephardess seems really petty... altho I don't know what to thing about the Shephardess / Weaver / Hunter / Demon Alien dynamic... (hide spoiler)]
