Buddy Reads discussion

We'll read a total of 7 books for this each Reading Sprint. A book a day. The books will be read in the order of the highest votes and so on (or whatever order they'll be written in the next comments). Participants will update their progress each day after reading the book and each book will be discussed on the day that it's read.

You'll update your progress the same way you did for other challenges (e.g. if you read 5 books of out 7-you're progress will be 5/7).

Day 1 (15/12/18):Animal Farm

I started this. It's such a cool and fun read. I like the concept.

It was a rather short one. Tell me how you feel about the end!

That is my message to you, comrades: Rebellion!

This was a rather fun and cool read. I loved the concept of a rebellion from the animals to overcome the farm and work for themselves. After Old Major tells his fellow animals how cruel humans have been towards them and how crucial it was for them to someday earn their freedom, the animals soon take over the farm with the pigs Napoleon and Snowball guiding them. But soon things go rawry.

The animals listened first to Napoleon, then to Snowball, and could not make up their minds which was right; indeed, they always found themselves in agreement with the one who was speaking at the moment.

Let me tell you that all the animals except the pigs and a donkey, Benjamin, were hopelessly stupid. Now that we’ve settled that, it was fun to watch how Animal farm came to be and how it was managed and ruled, though it was annoying when the animals never understood how they were betrayed. It’s a short read which was a bonus. However, I’m not so sure about the end. It is excellent but I’m not satisfied.

(view spoiler)[I hated what happened to Boxer and all the animals who somehow betrayed Napoleon. I hated Squealer and all the other pigs and dogs. I despised Benjamin too since he let it happen. Snowball wouldn’t have been any different though he would have helped all. (hide spoiler)]

My Thoughts as I Read:

Chapter 1:

Chapter 3:
(view spoiler)[Mollie is fun. Lazy and self-centered but fun. And the pigs sure are selfish. Guess power corrupts animals too. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 5:
(view spoiler)[Napoleon is so wicked and Squealer, he is a good manipulator. The animals seem to have come under the mastership of Napoleon now. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 6:

Chapter 7:
(view spoiler)[God, this is annoying. The stupidity of the bloody animals. I don’t think Snowball did anything. And Napoleon and Squealer should just die! And why do the animals so easily confess and also add Snowball’s name? Only Benjamin has some brain but no mouth apparently. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 9:

I was supposed to start today's book in the morning and thanks to me being me, it's almost evening and I haven't started it.

i have not started either, will get free and pick it up in an hour

I’m almost done with Animal Farm and I seriously feel sorry for them. (view spoiler)[ the pigs are so mean!!! Like Napoleon is awful and has gone back in just about everything they said they wouldn’t do. Shameful! I can’t remember who each animal is said to represent, but one thing I can remember, communism is bad!! (hide spoiler)]

@Shannara I felt sorry but was also annoyed somewhat by their stupidity.

Has anyone read the Bell Jar yet? I have read one-third and might finish soon.

Finished Animal Farm and I agree, I started to get really angry at the stupidity of some of the animals. Kind of an overall frustrating feeling. It was still a good read though.

Same here! I didn't read much of anything yesterday. Today perhaps I could go through 2.

Review:

"Do you think it's possible to know someone for years but never really see them?"

Noah has been Lexi’ crush for years and also his brother’s best friend who never really saw her as anything other than Easton’s nerdy little sister. Seeing that he might never notice her, she tries to get over him by developing a crush on Harrison. One day she stalks him to the moves hoping to snag a date with him, but when he arrives with his girlfriend from another school, Lexi’s kinda stuck there feeling stupid and embarrassed until Noah walks in to save her. And the story grows from there.

This was so refreshing. After just finishing The Book Thief and stuck in the middle of The Bell Jar, this definitely cheered me up. The writing was so smooth and natural and I loved the characters. I got vibes related to To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before from it but this was somehow completely different and so much fun.

I’m going to be reading more of her books-especially from this series. Highly Recommended!

My Thought’s as I Read:
Chapter 1:
I love it! I love it!! I love it!!!

Chapter 4:
(view spoiler)[Okay, so I also feel like crying with Noah. His mother is a weak character. It’s hard to let go and end things sometimes but it’s also necessary in situations like this. She needs to see that. As for his father, he is the kind who judges before he even attempts to listen, so not very ideal. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 5:
I’m getting To All the boy’s I’ve loved before vibes but on a completely different level. This is so good!

Chapter 9:
The dialogues are so relaxed and so natural. It doesn’t seemed forced and that makes it so easy to get lost in it.

Chapter 20:
It just ain’t fair what his parents do. Is it weird that it’s making me feel like crying?


Chapter 21:

This is going to be so much fun! Using Noah’s own scheme against him.

Day 5 (19/12/18):A Monster Calls

I loved monster calls when I read this earlier this year! I'd highly recommend it and if you want to watch the movie, watch it when you're done with the book.

Day 6 (20/12/18):Lord of the Flies

So I have finished Animal Farm and I've start It was always you

Animal farm was a very weird book, I didn't exactly like it, the animals were pretty dumb as you said Aqi and the way the animals were treated by those in power! it was awful and I hated how they kept changing the laws and only a few animals who could read knew about it but never did anything
and then theres that weird ending? like does that mean it's back to square one? no more peace between them? I'm so confused Haha

I'm glad I'm reading it was always you, at least I know that one has a happy ending XD

Haha Ikr! But I enjoyed it in some weird way. The idea was very unique and it was executed pretty well.
Yeah, I guess back to square one unfortunately and even worse than square one.

Yeah, it was always you was pretty refreshing after my own depressing reads.

I finished the Bell Jar. Though I am not sure about what I feel about it. I'll post my review soon :)

I'm halfway through, it was always you, and I just love Noah! He is so charming and flirty with Lexi, it makes me blush too I swear ☺️

And that first kiss!! 😍🤤 I was honestly melting inside!

I felt the same way, I loved everything about the book. I'm so glad you made us read it. I'll get to the rest of the series soon :)

I'm almost done with coraline. Have to adjust my speed with that of my sister's. Read some of Lord of the flies. Still haven't stated Death in Venice.

I just love this book! It was so nice to get a really happy and sappy novel after reading Animal Farm 😒

I really enjoyed how Noah began to change for the better for Lexi, and it was really sweet to see Lexi blush all the time. But what I liked most is the character development. Lexi finally realised that she was a catch and made an effort to look good, not only for Noah but also for herself.

Will need to find out what happens to the next couple in the series!

As for the lord of the flies, I enjoy some parts while the others leave me bored.

I'm starting a monster calls! I've heard a lot about this, so hoping it's good and hoping I won't be a complete emotional mess by the end of it?
