I read that one for the "book about a hobby" prompt. I know it's not "technically" about reading, but I figured it was close enough!

Sarah (sezziy) | 901 comments There is a small archery scene in The Age of Innocence so you could use it for the hobby prompt (but it's not a huge part of the book)

That's on my TBR too! Based on the blurb, I'm thinking multi-POV, about a family, maybe superpowers?

Christina (chrissy__) | 127 comments Fatima wrote: "where can I fit My Heart and Other Black Holes ?"

from the top of my head (and quickly checking the author's goodreads page): debut novel, astrology term in title (black holes), or maybe should be turned into a movie?

I'm gonna read it for 7. A reread of a favorite book <3

A book about a family, a book that includes a wedding, A book you think should be turned into a movie (maybe), A book you meant to read in 2018

message 413: by Ian (new)

Ian (iansreads) Trish wrote: "Where can I find Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty (besides multiple POV)"

"Should be a movie" or "Meant to read in 2018" would be easiest. I don't know what season it is set in, but you could find that out easily.

Thank you! I think I’ll put it into family category.

Most definitely! They're jewelry and jewelry is an accessory :)

- a book with one million ratings
- a book about a family
- a ghost story? (could argue for this category since Death is the narrator)

Great! That puts me at 18/50!

message 421: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 782 comments I finished The Ghost Map: The Story of London’s Most Terrifying Epidemic —and How It Changed Science,Cities, and the Modern World by Steven Johnson. I feel like it doesn’t work for any prompts. I guess if you think outside the box & stretch
the intention of the prompts it could be used for the following. A book about a hobby. The Dr investigating the chorea outbreak was doing it as a hobby different from his day job. A book featuring an amateur detective. The parish priest that interviewed survivors & discovered the index case did so because so many in his parish died he got curious. Together the Dr & priest solved a medical riddle or puzzle which fit the prompt a book revolving a puzzle. I wish there was a prompt of a book with a title that is too long.

message 423: by Melinda (new)

Melinda | 54 comments I've just finished The Round House by Louise Erdrich. I would like to put it into Advanced #10 "A book set in an abbey, cloister, monastery, vicarage or convent"
because the Round House is a place of healing and worship for the native people and the category is fairly Christian-centric (though Asian religians also have monasteries and convents).
Or perhaps #36. A ghost story- as there are stories of ghosts told by the narrators elders and he sees a ghost numerous times?
Help appreciated.

I'm not religious so I could be wrong, but I see monasteries, cloisters, etc as abodes and places of isolation for people who have dedicated their lives to that religion. To be "cloistered" is to be isolated from the rest of the world. In Erdrich's book, no one lives at the Round House, and none of the main characters had dedicated their lives to their particular worship, and there are no hermits at the Round House, so I don't think it fits in that category.

I think "ghost story" would be a good fit, though!

No I didn't. I just saw that it was the second book of that series. I am currently reading A Man Called Ove for that prompt.

message 428: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1301 comments Okay. I haven't read Us against you, yet, but Beartown is a book about family (among other things) so the second probably is as well.

Lagoon is set in Nigeria but the author is American, it involves an alien invasion in Lagos and the resulting chaos. You may have been planning to read it for "superpowers."

I didn't know there were aliens! Does it work for cli-fi if it's alien induced?

(view spoiler) it could work for cli fi. (Not sure if that bit was a spoiler so I tagged it)

A book written by two female authors.

It could count for a book about a family. Her family is very prominent in the novel.

I believe it is also a debut novel.

Christina (chrissy__) | 127 comments would you say The Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene works as debut novel since Carolyn Keene is a writer pen name that was used by many different people over the years?

any other ideas except for amateur detective?
