Diana (dianacosma) | 2 comments Hi everyone. How can I add a genre to my book page? I see other books have their genre(s) listed but I don't find the option to add it to mine.

rivka Genres on a book page are crowd-sourced based on the shelves users have them on. You can start the process for your own book by shelving it on your own genre-specific shelf or shelves.

Ville Kokko | 52 comments I've been wondering about this. What exactly is a genre-specific shelf? It's not just a shelf that happens to have the same name as a genre, is it?

It is! 😊 For example, if you consider your book to be of the "horror" genre, simply shelve your book on a shelf named "horror" to kick off the process. The more people that shelve the book as "horror" on their own shelves the more the book is consolidated as that genre. That's pretty much how genres work on Goodreads.
