I'm listening to the Audiobook so I don't exactly remember what chapter this pertains to... so I'm posting in the last thread to avoid spoilers for anyone. I missed the part where I.O.I. realized they didn't kill Z when they blew up his home. How did they react? I must have drifted off or something because I have NO recollection...

(view spoiler)[The meeting between Wade's avatar and Nolan Sorrento as well as the explosion at the Stacks both happened in Level 1, Chapter 14.
I don't remember reading anything about IOI's discovery that Wade survived, but he & Art3mis were being targeted by Sixers at Ogden Morrow's party in Chapter 18. And previously, Wade wasn't hiding, pretending to be dead.
Also, do you remember when another OASIS player dies later in the story? His name immediately disappeared from the Anorak's Quest leaderboard; but Wade's name never vanished. (hide spoiler)]

I was wondering the same, I was also listening to the audio so I thought I might have missed it as well. Good point oshizu!!

Wowowowowow. It went from a sluggish middle part to ending with a bang! The last 100 pages or so really kept me on edge and I did not put it down until I was finished.

(view spoiler)[ I'm so relieved that all 4 of them were able to remain friends and eventually united to take down IOI. Wade was my #1 pick to find the egg, but I would've been happy with anyone that's not a Sixer. And can we talk about Art and Wade?!?! Ahhhh! I know that wasn't the main focus of the novel, but it definitely made my heart happy that in the end they seemed to work out. (hide spoiler)]

I gave this book 5 stars. It kept me hooked from page 1, and if I didn't have a job and real life responsibilities I probably would have sat down and tried to tackle this thing in one sitting. It has been a little bit since I have come across a book that makes me stay up late saying "Well, maybe just one more chapter..." and this book basically had me do it every night. I have been doing a bit of research and it has been rumored that the author isworking on a part 2. I am definitely a fan of the Oasis and personally hope to see a continuation of the story!

I really enjoyed how this book ended!

(view spoiler)[ So I was really glad that the Sixers did not get the egg and that Wade was able to win it. Although it is a typical, predictable outcome, I was fine with it because the implications of a Sixer winning overall were just too much. To charge what would have probably been an exorbitant amount of money to even have an OASIS account just made me so angry since so much of their world was struck with poverty. It's not cool when something like that is only accessible for the ultra-rich.

I was glad to see Wade and Art3mis get together at the end and finally see each other. I hope now that they have met in person that they will spend more time in person hanging out and less time on the OASIS.

Aech being African American and female was a cool plot twist and a great social commentary. How typical that some people can only take others seriously in business or in real life if they are a WASP male. I felt so bad for her being thrown out by her mom because of her sexuality. I guess even in the future people may still not be okay with differences in sexuality.

I would love to see a continuation of the story. Now that Wade is in charge of the OASIS and has unlimited power, how will he use it? Halliday gave him a warning about using his power for good and I think even a hint about possibly destroying the OASIS if needs be. I want to see what Wade would do with his power and his winnings and also to see if he would keep the OASIS around. Or will he destroy it and do what Art3mis suggested and help to rebuild the real world. In all, this was a fantastic read and I am so glad we had it for this month! I would have never read it otherwise! (hide spoiler)]

I'm starting Warcross by Marie Lu, which is in the same category of LitRPG. There's a buddy read for Warcross this month if you're interested. 😉

Aech was definitely the most fascinating character in this book for me.
(view spoiler)[I would love to read a LitRPG on the topic of "passing." Female gamers often pass as male to avoid the weirdness, while male gamers playing female characters often get into awkward situations.
I smiled when post-discovery Wade got embarrassed thinking about having shared his intimate thoughts about women with Aech, then rationalized that, oh well, Aech is interested in women, too.
I would love to read a LitRPG told from the perspective of Aech or someone like that character! (hide spoiler)]

I'm participating in a buddy read for Marie Lu's Warcross this month. Well, I'll start participating once I start reading from today. I'm very interested to see the differences/similarities of Warcross with Ready Player One, considering Warcross is written by a female person of color.

I totally feel the same way about this book. I was up until 1:30am finishing it last night....I HAD to know how the whole story wrapped up! 5 stars for sure
