Candice | 2 comments Hi! I'm looking for a good paranormal romance book or series that does not have the reverse harem theme. I know its really popular now, but its not my cup of tea. I keep searching for a new book but most recommendations are reverse harem. And I love first-person, that would be a great bonus. I prefer the classic story lines; love triangles, forbidden romance, boy-meets-girl (vice versa), best friends to lovers, second chance, etc. Like many of you, I read a lot:) So, if any of you know of any hidden gems I would love to hear about them! Thank you!!!

I don't usually search specifically for young adult when I read paranormal, I tend to ignore genres and pounce on any summary that sounds interesting, but I've certainly ended up reading plenty that ride the border of adult/ya.

I think you might like the following pnr/fantasy series. They're not technically young adult, but there are very few sexual references, and any romance is very slow burn over the course of all 3 of these series and there are NO reverse harem, menage, or love triangle themes.

Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop Written in Red by Anne Bishop

Deadly Remains (A Clairvoyant's Complicated Life, #1) by Katherine Bayless Deadly Remains by Katherine Bayless

Darkness Haunts (The Sensor, #1) by Susan Illene Darkness Haunts by Susan Illene

Start with "The Others" series by Anne Bishop. It's a huge fan favorite in most paranormal groups I've browsed through! I love this series because of the characters and how each different paranormal species in the courtyard is fleshed out with so many tiny species quirks and differing perspectives of the exact same things. I love how they each have so much trouble trying to make sense of Meg (our heroine, a human blood prophet) and the behaviors of her "human pack" through the eyes of a shifter pack or the norms of a vampire, etc. There's so much adorable confusion!

What makes this series unique is the fact that humans are the minority in this world, are a nuisance to "The Others" who view us as good candidates for extermination, yet we just keep stupidly screwing things up. Every. Damn. Time. It's so much fun to read!
