Is it recommended to read these books in order?

I have The Twisted Root and Funeral in Blue. I want to give these books to my boyfriend's grandmother since she loves mystery books, but it never occured to me that these books were part of a series until now. I've never read them, so I'm unsure if I should give her books from a series out of order (unless she already has them lol). What should I do?

They're always better in order, but it's not crucial. IMO, her first few books in the Pitt series were the best.
