In celebration of this book being my 100th book read in 2018, I will give a quick recap of the books I read this year:
TOP 3 Books

2018 favorites - full list
MOST SURPRISING BOOKS
Where should we begin?: The Arc of Love and The State of Affairs: Rethinking Infidelity - Such a great casual conversation starter, "I'm reading a book on affairs." But both these books blew me away. Unfaithfulness affects us all. I can think of at least 10 people in my closer circles who have been affected by adultery, unfaithful spouses, unfaithful parents, etc. Wouldn't it be great to understand it better instead of pretending that it isn't happening? Relationships are a big deal.
Getting to Yes with Yourself: And Other Worthy Opponents - Wow, who would have thought how much we negotiate with ourselves every day.
Onward: How Starbucks Fought for Its Life without Losing Its Soul - What pure passion for the coffee experience and customer service.
Passionate Marriage: Keeping Love and Intimacy Alive in Committed Relationships - Some amazing thoughts on marriage, in a very unexpected place.
Anatomy of the Soul: Surprising Connections Between Neuroscience and Spiritual Practices that Can Transform Your Life and Relationships - A beautiful link between the scientific and the spiritual aspects of the soul.
LONGEST TIME COMING
Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die Was on my "To Read" list since February 2014. Took 4 years to finally start reading it, and it was my #2 book of the year.
A YEAR OF…

TENSION
I enjoyed getting multiple angles, sometimes from opposing points of view, in shaping and re-thinking my perspectives. No one has all the truth. Here are some examples:
- Get the right people on the bus. Change the people on the bus. You can't change people. You can't always hire the right people, so work on inspiring your people to own their lives and their work.
- Use SMART goals. SMART goals can be counterproductive.
- Make your writing taut with well-thought out structure. Don't constrain your writing with structure.
- Love yourself. Let others love you, you can't love yourself until you have received love.
