Holly and I will be reading Sweet Unrest starting September 20th. Anyone is welcome to join (although it hasn't been published yet we are reading ARCs).

Lucy Aimes has always been practical. But try as she might, she can’t come up with a logical explanation for the recurring dreams that have always haunted her. Dark dreams. Dreams of a long-ago place filled with people she shouldn’t know…but does.

When her family moves to a New Orleans plantation, Lucy’s dreams become more intense, and her search for answers draws her reluctantly into the old city’s world of Voodoo and mysticism. There, Lucy finds Alex, a mysterious boy who behaves as if they’ve known each other forever. Lucy knows Alex is hiding something, and her rational side doesn’t want to be drawn to him. But she is.

As she tries to uncover Alex’s secrets, a killer strikes close to home, and Lucy finds herself ensnared in a century-old vendetta. With the lives of everyone she loves in danger, Lucy will have to unravel the mystery of her dreams before it all comes to a deadly finish.

Hey, hey. Are you ready for this?! Since I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow (the 20th) because I won't have time during the week because of school, I'm starting it tonight! But I'll try and slow down a little. :)

I am going to start it now, too, since we don't have classes today. :)

I didn't know you had started! I wasn't planning on starting until the 20th.

I actually haven't even started it yet, and prob won't until later tonight (which would be the 20th, anyway). But I hope to finish it fast.

Chapter 1 - (view spoiler)[hmm. I didn't read the synopsis before starting this one so I have no idea what this will be about. Anyway, i understand Lucy's feelings. It's not easy to get uprooted from a place she always thought she belonged to. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 3 - (view spoiler)[Uh huh. That was so cliche. She noticed a guy and can't barely take her eyes off him. Hmm. Anyway, i have a creepy feeling about this. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 7 - (view spoiler)[*eye roll* seriously? Can I read something with a MC having friends, real ones? I don't like friends who's jealous and selfish. Chloe seems great at first but the author ruined it. -_- (hide spoiler)]

So, I totally lied. Okay, I really didn't lie because I was going to start the book last night. But another book was calling my name, so I pushed Sweet Unrest aside. I truly am starting it tonight! I promise. :)

Jk jk jk ...cuz I haven't started it yet either. But! I am tonight, bc I just finished this book I wanted to finish before I started this :)

I'm excited about this book, though! I can't wait to actually dive into the story.

I just read the prologue. I'm intrigued and think this'll be a good one *fingers crossed*

The prologue confused me! I thought we would be dealing with a historical novel, until I realized it was talking about a reenactment and not the actual war. Haha.

LOL i actually thought that this will be a historical fiction but it isn't. i'm still not finished though because i got sidetracked by a tv show.

It's ok, I'm just starting, loving the writing so far though. But I'm off to bed, will read more tomorrow!

I'm up to chapter 8 and will probably finish tonight! At first, the book was slow-paced for me but it's gotten very intriguing. And I have a few theories.

(view spoiler)[Okay, so Lucy's dreams about Alex feel like flashbacks from a different life. Like she's actually Armantine. I'm wondering how all of the Voodoo and dreams fit in, though, so we shall see! (hide spoiler)]

I really liked how, when the author was explaining the Voodoo and cards, it didn't feel like an info-dump. And I'm interested in learning more.

Chapter 8: (view spoiler)[UH, WHOA. I hope that was just a misunderstanding. I'm not sure how I feel about Alex yet. Is he a good guy or a bad guy? That chapter sure made him seem like a dangerous murderer. (hide spoiler)]

Okay, so I finished the book! And it was good--predictable, but good. I just wish the characters' relationships had been more developed, especially the one between Lucy and Alex. (view spoiler)[The fact that she was Armantine reincarnated was not news to me, so maybe the predictability of that made me not totally believe the love Lucy felt toward him. And it felt like there was no romance buildup between them. (hide spoiler)]

And all of the secondary characters, aside from Alex and Mama Legba, felt like they just existed. Like they were unimportant. I think, with so much of the focus on the mystery and dreams, that the realness slipped away. I wish there'd been a balance, so the characters didn't feel so one-dimensional.

I may put this aside for now...so many other books I'm dying to read, it's just kinda meh atm

Aw, I'm sorry you're not liking it, Diamond! If you have to set it aside, go ahead! It's not fun if you're forcing yourself to continue.

I'm probably rating this 3 stars. Maybe. I liked it, but I had a lot of problems with it.

Yeah I'm just not really feelin it.. I'm hoping it's just my mood though, I plan to give it another chance at some point lol
