The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
Rating: 3 stars
Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

This is the 3rd and latest edition of the Eddie Perlmutter/Boca Knight series. Eddie is a retired ex-cop from Boston who retires to Boca Raton Florida and, of course, things do not go smoothly. Cute, very light, a very easy read. I liked it but it's nothing to take seriously. Good to read by the pool.

In this 'Dr. Thomas Silkstone' book, a deadly fog spreads across England - and murders are committed in midst of the chaos. The book can be read as a standalone.
More of a historical novel than a historical mystery. 3 stars

In this first book in the 'Detective Carl Morck' series, Carl becomes head of Department Q and looks into the cold case of a vanished politician. Very good mystery. 4 stars

The Dutch Shoe Mystery: An Ellery Queen Mystery

by: Ellery Queen
Penzler Re-release of classic mysteries. Solid "fair-play" puzzler with some dated elements. My full review:

In this cozy mystery, Lake Eden, Minnesota bakery owner Hannah Swensen creates confections for Valentines Day while navigating a rough patch in her personal life. Favorite recurring characters are on hand. There are LOTS of recipes in this book.
The novel could technically be read as a standalone but I wouldn't advise it. 3 stars

This is another in the Nero Wolfe series, resurrected by Goldsborough in the stead of the late Rex Stout. I really liked it but I'm such a fan of Nero and Archie that I would probably like almost anything like this. It's wonderful to see a great series like this with new entries.

When parents of kindergartners interact in an Australian town, it

(This was adapted to an HBO mini-series.)

I've finished The Plotters, by Un-su Kim; it was okay, but I didn't love it.
Also finished The Butcher's Hook, by Janet Ellis. That one was not okay.

What a waste of my time. Jeez.

Simeon Grist is a PI in present-day LA, involved this time with a TV star and a bunch of other low-lifes. Takes a few pages to get going but then it's a real page-turner. Hallinan writes 3 series and I'm a fan of all 3. This guy is a major talent. 5 stars.

Twenty-five years after a teenage boy is convicted of murdering three members of his family, his surviving sister starts to doubt his guilt. Good psychological thriller. 4 stars

I like the Department Q series too.. I need to read the next one.

So far really intriguing and fascinating in a time of unrest and a gathering of war clouds in 1930s Berlin.

It's disappointing when a good series goes bad. It seems too many authors (or maybe publishers) try to extend a series too far.

In this addition to the series, journalist Jim Qwilleran - also an amateur sleuth - is helping organize his town's anniversary celebration when his 'psychic' cat signals murder. The book can be read as a standalone but knowing the characters is a bonus.
3 stars

Happy reading to all. : )

I liked Nesbo's Macbeth. 😊

Not a mystery. I guess you'd call it a crime novel, meaning a novel about criminals. And when I say criminals, I mean the kind of people you'd cross the street to avoid if you saw them in real life. But the story, once it gets going, is terrific. Really liked it.

I think I'm at a disadvantage because I've never read/seen Shakespeare's Macbeth, so the storyline is brand new to me, but with all the usual Nesbo touches.
