Dot | 15 comments The Rainaldi Quartet by Paul Adam. Good lead characters although the villian was one dimensional. If I'd known anything about violins I could've gotten more out of it, but it was educational!

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments Unnatural Acts Unnatural Acts (Dan Shamble, Zombie PI, #2) by Kevin J. Anderson by Kevin J. Anderson

In this comical mystery, the Earth's population has been increased by all manner of supernatural creatures (ghosts, vampires, zombies, etc.),...who just want to live their lives. Private Detective Dan Shamble, who's a zombie himself, tries hard to help his 'unnatural' neighbors. Fun story. 3 stars

Araych | 678 comments Just finished Disco for the Departed Disco For The Departed (Dr. Siri Paiboun, #3) by Colin Cotterill by Colin Cotterill

Those readers who yearn for further adventures of Sherlock Holmes will be happy to learn he has been reincarnated in the form of Dr. Siri Paiboun, the 73 year-old reluctant national coroner of the People's Democratic Republic of Laos in 1977. He even has a Watson in his Nurse Dtui. This is the 3rd volume in the Dr. Siri series. I'm reading them in order but that's not necessary. These are wonderful mysteries; intricately plotted, with great characters and fascinating insights into Communist Laos in the 70's and the people, powerful and not, living out their lives in that time and place. And Dr. Siri is a hoot. 5 stars.

Gretchen | 0 comments Finished the Fallen by Baldacci. Started 13 hours in Benghazi. Only 25% through and already you see some of the horrendous mistakes made by the state department. I did not follow the story when it happened. I watched the movie a couple of years back and it intrigued me to read more about.

I had read Wiprud's 2 previous books about Morty the feeler and liked them a lot so I tried Buy Back. Tommy Davin is a semi-honest insurance investigator in Brooklyn. Very entertaining, goes fast. Wish Wiprud would turn this into a series, i'd love to read more of Tommy's adventures.

Murder at the Savoy by Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö. I gave it 4 stars, and almost gave it 5. I've now finished nine of the 10 Inspector Martin Beck novels and have been amazed by each of them. IMO, they are remarkably good, particularly the social commentary.
