This is Henry Kennis #3, who is the police chief of Nantucket island, Mass. These Kennis mysteries are very well done, I love that all the characters are drawn as real people. Highly recommended.

Deb Jones (feisty56) | 99 comments Finished Miracle Creek by Angie Kim , a debut novel for author Angie Kim. Even though the reader knows from the first chapters what the crime was, the unraveling of whodunit is exquisitely prolonged until the last pages. Quite a character study and good reading.

In this 3rd book in the 'DS Aector McAvoy' series, the detective investigates what looks like revenge killings while his wife interferes with a gangbanger - causing trouble for herself. The book can be read as a standalone. Very good mystery. 4 stars

When the daughter of an upper class family becomes a drug addict, her father desperately tries to find her. To add to the strife, a young assassin couple is on the loose, and a PI is looking for a missing man. Okay book, but not among Harlan Coben's best. 3 stars

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments First Degree First Degree (Andy Carpenter #2) by David Rosenfelt by David Rosenfelt

In this humorous mystery series, defense attorney Andy Carpenter has a great way with wisecracks and sarcastic remarks. In this book, he defends his girlfriend when she's accused of murder. Fun book. 3 stars

message 1233: by Araych (new)

Araych | 678 comments The Sentence Is Death The Sentence is Death (Hawthorne, #2) by Anthony Horowitz By Anthony Horowitz

This is Hawthorne #2, in which Anthony gets involved in another murder (or 2 ?) and again has to work with Detective Hawthorne. This is a well-done mystery with an intriguing plot and great characters, but I felt it lacked the magic of Horowitz' previous "Magpie Murders" and "The Word is Murder". I picked up on the first of the major plot twists as soon as it was presented, and even though I had the solution wrong, the book felt like a very workman-like effort, a bit down from the previous 2. 4 stars rather than 5.
