Gretchen | 0 comments Potentially controversial post Finished Night by Elie Weisel. I know it is not a mystery, but I want to comment on it anyway. It is an amazing book. I considered myself well informed/educated about the Holocaust and am appalled when I hear some believe it is a hoax. This book illustrates the devastation of the Holocaust but worse, how the rest of the world (in general) did nothing from the beginning until the very end. I see this happening here (US) under our current leadership (controversial, I know). I am not an overtly political person and try to be fair to all beliefs, but this book really brings to the surface the many injustices we face in the 21st century and which have been allowed to flourish in the past two years. That is all I have to say. I am not looking to argue with anyone. Just sharing how this book affected me.

When a neuroscientist and her team (sort of inadvertently) develop time travel, there are unintended consequences. Good speculative science fiction with interesting characters. 3.5 stars

Still need to finish the last of this audiobook. It’s such a hard thing to read. But I already started looking into contributing to Israel.

It's been said that if we don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. I count myself among those who need a refresher from time to time on past mistakes, collectively, and also those times when society has stepped up to the plate and selflessly aided those in need.

I love Lord Peter Wimsey. He's a good example of a golden age detective (and for his time he was pretty progressive). LOL 🙂💙🌼

Patty | 4469 comments I just finished If She Wakes by Michael Kortya. I think this is the first book of his I’ve read.

Where are the editors? A character is called one name until chapter 50. She is then called a new name. At first, I thought this was a way for a main character to realize that she wasn’t who she said she was. But, no. For the next few chapters, she is called both names. This book made it this far and no one noticed.

Araych | 678 comments Print the Legend Print the Legend by Craig McDonald by Craig McDonald

I have previously read "Toros and Torsos" by McDonald and enjoyed it very much, so I was really looking forward to this one. It's really not a mystery at all, but sort of a disjointed novel. But, far worse, at heart it's a contemptible book-length character assassination of Mary Hemingway, Ernest Hemingway's widow. McDonald scorns Hemingway's other 3 wives as well, but trashing Mary is the heart of the book. She is accused of literary theft, all sorts of lying and dishonesty, and murder. Awful.
