In this fourth book in the 'Detective Erika Foster' series, the cop is after a serial killer. In an interesting twist, the reader knows the identify of the perp. The book can be read as a standalone.
Good mystery. 3 stars

Susanna (suspree) | 3 comments Just finished "Lady in the Lake" by Laura Lippman. Excellent. First book I've read by her and I started "Baltimore Blues" the next day. I can tell that will be my next series obsession. Now I've discovered Denise Mina and I'm distracted by "Conviction." I predict I'll finish it tonight. Can't put it down!

I've finished two vintage mystery novels from 1923, both from a previously unknown to me British writer, Annie Haynes:

The Bungalow Mystery and The Abbey Court Murder. For hardcore vintage mystery readers, both have more than their fair share of elements from Victorian sensation novels included.

its amazing that it still holds up today, I feel that some authors could learn a lot from classic authors such as Wilkie, I feel there are some people nowadays are getting a bit lazy about their characters and plot development lol

message 1731: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen | 0 comments It was a bit boring. Harry Hole can be an interesting character. I wasn't interested in the setting at all. It could have taken place anywhere with the same story line. I read the first book a few years ago, bought the next two but never got to them until I joined a challenge this summer which is why I read it. I figured out who the bad guy was with about 1/3 of the book to go. I think you should finish it just to be done with it. :) I did a push this past couple of days to finish it.

Denise Mina writes a great story, doesn't she? I've read the first two titles in the trilogy, but am a little reluctant to read the third one because, well because I don't know how things will turn out and I don't want the series to end.

Michael Cassidy #3. Can be read as a stand-alone, but does refer to stuff earlier in the series. This was a dynamite fun book, full of suspense and with a great plot. Nazis in New York in 1956. NYPD vs. CIA. A real page turner, I loved it.
