Araych | 678 comments Billy Boyle Billy Boyle (Billy Boyle World War II, #1) by James R. Benn by James R. Benn

Lt. Billy Boyle, ex-Boston cop, is assigned to the staff of his uncle, Gen. Ike Eisenhower, in England, 1942, and Ike wants him to figure out a complex spy/murder case. Cute idea and I'll probably read another 1 or 2 of Billy's adventures, but the book isn't written at a very high level. At times it almost feels like a young adult adventure novel. 3 stars.

Ron (ronb626) | 3418 comments Just finished Personal (Jack Reacher, #19) by Lee Child Personal, by Lee Child, a Jack Reacher novel.

Not the best Reacher book that I've read, but, not the worst, either. Pretty typical Reacher book. But, I had become used to more than pretty typical.

Just started Savage Run (Joe Pickett, #2) by C.J. Box Savage Run, by C.J. Box, a Joe Pickett novel.

Just the 3rd Pickett book that I've read. So far, I'm liking this series and this author.

On a different note, I'm no longer getting emails from this, and other, threads. It says that I'm following this discussion(instant email), but, I never do get any emails from it. Anybody know why this is happening?

Araych | 678 comments Satan in St. Mary's Satan in St Mary's (Hugh Corbett, #1) by Paul Doherty by P. C. (Paul) Doherty

London, 1284, and troubles afoot in our fair land. More a history lesson about the way people lived than an actual mystery. I don't know why I keep reading these books--I read one about a mystery in ancient Egypt and it was the same thing. The author very proudly explaining in great detail what people wore, what they ate, how they disposed of their trash, etc. Fascinating if you're interested, not so interesting if you're not.

I've had that happen periodically. I just notify Goodreads and it is usually fixed within a day or two after they have gotten to it.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 556 comments GR dropping thread reminders happens periodically (I check my spam filters regularly). It's one reason I use the Discussions tab under Community so much; I can more easily see if a thread I usually follow has dropped notifications.

This happens to ALL threads. And, it isn't going to my spam folder. Nothing from Goodreads winds up there. I'm just not getting anything. So, I changed the setting from Individual Email to Email All. And, with that change, I get notices from every posting to this thread. But, that's not what I want. I used to get 1 message that a response had happened. I want to return to that, but, I don't know how to do that since that setting doesn't work. Someone mentioned mentioning it to Goodreads. Can I get a link of email address for that? In order to do that, I'll need someway to do it. Just sending something to Goodreads isn't what I want. Who at Goodreads? What email address at Goodreads?

I do appreciate the help, but, I'm still needing a bit more.

In this 18th book in the comical 'Pennsylvania Dutch Mystery' series, the amateur sleuth Magdalena Yoder - a Mennonite woman who eschews things like television and dancing - is on the trail of bank robbers.

The book has plenty of laughs and can be read as a standalone.

If you're just doing individual email, then unless you come back to the threads and post something again soon, you'll stop getting notices. You can contact GR support

message 1884: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (nickyxxx) I've just started re-reading The Kindly Ones (in my native tongue though). Considering the book covers the Second World War, this ain't an easy read - the author clearly aims to get under my skin by, in detail, describing executions and advancing towards Russia with the armed divisions. It's a slow read as well and the main character starts losing his mind after 50%, but so far I'm enjoying the detailed passages.
