Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments This Body of Death This Body of Death (Inspector Lynley, #16) by Elizabeth George by Elizabeth George

In this 16th book in the 'Inspector Lynley' series, Scotland Yard investigates two crimes: the murder of a toddler by three juvenile delinquents who are soon caught and the murder of a young woman in a London cemetery by an unknown assailant. The book can be read as a standalone but knowledge of the characters is a plus.

Very good mystery. 4 stars

Aditya | 2017 comments @Araych Crumley is very good and so is The Last Good Kiss, his drinking would get the better of him. His plots would suffer but his prose will always remain top notch. I will also suggest The Wrong Case, as good maybe even a bit better than The Last Good Kiss.

Deb Jones (feisty56) | 99 comments I've just read the third installment in the Mycroft and Sherlock series by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Anna Waterhouse, Mycroft and Sherlock: The Empty Birdcage. It is a good story with two mysteries at its heart; not quite the intensity of the first two books in the series, but definitely worth reading.

Jannelies (living between hope and fear) | 512 comments I'm currently reading The Billion Pound Lie
The Billion Pound Lie by Bill Dare
which is rather entertaining.
The reason I choose this book from my TBR shelf is that I finished Bloodman by Robert Pobi this weekend...
Bloodman by Robert Pobi
... and I'm still trying to muster the courage to write a review for this book.
It did not give me nightmares as such, but I cannot get it out of my head.
I hope to be able to write my review soon.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments Stop the Presses! Stop the Presses! (Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe Mysteries #11) by Robert Goldsborough by Robert Goldsborough

A continuation of Rex Stout's 'Nero Wolfe' mysteries by a new author.

It's set in the 1970s, and Cameron Clay - who writes the "Stop the Presses" gossip column for the New York Gazette - has been getting death threats. He goes to eccentric private detective Nero Wolfe for help.

Amusing mystery. 3 stars

Araych | 677 comments Bad Debts Bad Debts (Jack Irish, #1) by Peter Temple by Peter Temple

This is an absolutely dynamite mystery but it's not written in American English, it's written in Australian English. I loved the plot, I loved the characters, I loved Temple's style. I just had a lot of trouble understanding who was doing what to who.

rating: 3.5/5
i would have given it 5 stars but it was poorly edited and annoying phrases kept repeating over and over and almost made me stop reading but it is also a good story, putting aside the bad editing

Patty | 4469 comments I just started Hard Mouth by Amanda Goldblatt.

The book begins with Denny’s father trying to teach her about empathy. He takes her to a house he’s trying to sell, has her lay in a young girl’s bed, and through speech, tries to get her to submerge herself into the little girl’s life. The idea was for her to feel what it was like to see things through someone else’s eyes. She goes home with her dad, but continues to see things through this young girl’s eyes. As she grows up, she thinks this is when she started not feeling.

This is a very different book. Enjoying this debut novel.
