Bill I finished the 5th Joe Sandilands mystery, The Bee's Kiss by Barbara Cleverly this morning. An enjoyable series, if you like historical mysteries... My review below

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments Look Alive Twenty-Five Look Alive Twenty-Five (Stephanie Plum, #25) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich

In this 25th book in the comical 'Stephanie Plum' cozy mystery series, the bail enforcement agent gets involved with a series of bizarre abductions. The book can be read as a standalone.

The series is very formulaic, so you know exactly what to expect. I got a few laughs, but it's not the best in the series. 3 stars

I love that book. His next two, The Disappearance of Adèle Bedeau and The Accident on the A35: An Inspector Gorski Investigation also make for awesome reading, since he seems to have channeled Simenon for those two.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments Darkness, My Old Friend Darkness, My Old Friend by Lisa Unger by Lisa Unger

In this second book in 'The Hollows' series, retired cop Jones Cooper looks into the cold case of a missing woman while a LOT more is going on in town.
The book can be read as a standalone.

Okay mystery. 3 stars

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments Blue Moonlight Blue Moonlight (Richard "Dick" Moonlight #3) by Vincent Zandri by Vincent Zandri

In this 3rd book in the 'Dick Moonlight' series, the private detective goes to Italy to retrieve a flash drive with secret information. This puts Dick in the sights of bad guys out to stop him. Plenty of action.

The book can be read as a standalone.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments The Well The Well by Catherine Chanter by Catherine Chanter

A couple wanting to escape London buy a property called 'The Well.' During a subsequent water crisis, The Well is the only place that has water. This drives the plot.

Interesting premise but this dystopian novel doesn't quite hit the mark (for me). 2 stars

Araych | 678 comments Curse of the Pogo Stick Curse of the Pogo Stick (Dr. Siri Paiboun #5) by Colin Cotterill by Colin Cotterill

Dr. Siri Paiboun #5. The Dr. Siri mysteries can usually be read as stand-alones but this one refers quite a bit to the previous story ( ( Anarchy and Old Dogs ) so I recommend reading that before this.
Another wonderful entry in the series. "Tragically funny and magically sublime".

In this dystopian novel, objects on an island are disappearing, one at a time.....and the population then forgets about them. The few people who remember are hunted down by the Memory Police.

Plenty to ponder about in this book. 3.5 stars

Richard Jury #5, OK to read as stand-alone. Jury, a Scotland Yard detective, and his friend Melrose Plant solve another mysterious murder. Or is it 2? One of the best in the series so far, highly recommended.

message 2392: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments Quantum Quantum (Captain Chase #1) by Patricia Cornwell by Patricia Cornwell

This is the start of a new series by Cornwell, who's well known for her long-running Kay Scarpetta (medical examiner) series.

This new series features Captain Calli Chase, a NASA employee and would-be astronaut. Shenanigans involving the deployment of a new device on the International Space Station lead to murder and more in this book.

Cornwell needs to work out the kinks, but it's an okay start to a new series. 3 stars
