In this first book in the 'Hannah Swensen' series, the baker/sleuth returns to her home town, opens a cookie bakery, meets her two long-time beaus, and investigates a couple of murders. Good debut. Lots of cookie recipes. 3 stars

Very true. I'd forgotten that. The stories make me hungry sometimes.. ;)

Lincoln Rhyme, the quadriplegic forensic scientist (played by Denzel Washington in the movies) pursues a serial murderer who kills with poison tattoos. Very good mystery. 4 stars

Elainedav Finished 'Thinking on my Feet' by Kate Humble. Great book for anyone interested in walking. I especially liked the stories of other people she interviewed during the year.

Just started 'Hard Pushed: A Midwife's Story' by Leah Hazard - ARC from Netgalley.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 556 comments And because I can't read only one book at once, I am also reading The Leavenworth Case. You can certainly see what would result from it (the modern police procedural), and you can also see where it came from (the sensation novels of the 1860s, Dickens, and the American sentimental novel tradition). A very interesting read.

I found it interesting as well. Nancy has introduced me to a few interesting early mysteries.

Bill I just finished Undone, the 3rd Will Trent thriller, by Karin Slaughter. Definitely the best of the 3 so far and maybe it has something to do with the introduction of Sara Linton from the Grant County series, into the mix. Excellent, if somewhat long, thriller / suspense story. I'm about to start the 13th book in the Anna Pigeon mystery series; Hard Truth by Nevada Barr.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments Written in Fire Written in Fire (Brilliance Saga, #3) by Marcus Sakey by Marcus Sakey

In this third book in the 'Brilliance' trilogy the threatened civil war between 'average' people and 'brilliants' with extraordinary abilities is about to start. The series ends with more of a bing than a bang (IMO)….but it's okay. 3 stars

This is one of the Junior Bender series that Hallinan writes. Junior is a crook who does jobs for other crooks. This series is just wonderful--suspenseful, well plotted, very funny, and extremely well written. I'm a big fan of Mr. Hallinan's work.

At the request of the Fleming estate, Horowitz wrote Forever and a Day to introduce us to 007 and the woman who explains why she orders martinis "shaken, not stirred."

Araych | 677 comments Just finished Ringer Ringer by Brian M. Wiprud by Brian Wiprud
The spirit of Donald Westlake now walks the land in the writings of Brian Wiprud. Very amusing and intricately plotted crime novel in the spirit of Donald Westlake who, as you should know, was one of the absolute best. Wiprud isn't quite in that august company but he's damn close and hasn't yet generated the output that Westlake did, so he certainly could get there. This book is a lot of fun.
