About to start The Plotters by Korean author Un-Su Kim; finished 3 from 1919 (well, I finished them some time ago but just posted about them, ranking them from most annoying to least):
The Mystery of the Thirteenth Floor, by Lee Thayer
The Mystery of the Skeleton Key, by Bernard Capes
and
Ashes to Ashes, by Isabel Ostrander. When it comes to decade challenge time for 1910-1919, you might want to keep this one in mind.
Also, a final plug for Millar's The Fiend buddy read, starting today. I'll be thinking about how I want to set this up before we get rolling, but everyone is more than welcome.

This is the first in Kerr's Bernie Gunther series. Gunther is an ex-cop private detective in Berlin, 1936. So, Nazis. Lots of atmospheric background on geography, food, social behaviors, etc. Complicated plot, very interesting but gets pretty grim towards the end. I liked it.

Psychologist Alex Delaware helps LAPD Detective Milo Sturgis investigate the death of a beautiful woman at a wedding reception that's being held in a former strip club. Pretty good mystery. 3 stars

That was one of my five star reads from last year. Amazing how the setting of WWII era Berlin changed everything from what would otherwise have been a relatively ordinary noir-ish mystery.

This is, I believe, number 4 in the Andy Carpenter series. Andy is a smart-alec lawyer in New Jersey, so there's a lot of humor in this series, which I like. It's an easy read and very well written.

I like this series also because it's amusing and fun. 😊

Finished Crime Beat by Michael Connelly, the only unread Connelly for me, unforunately his non-fiction is too dour. I will even ask fans of the author to avoid this one. Rating - 2/5.

I'm starting Wycliffe and the Guild of Nine by W.J. Burley.

In this addition to the 'Harry Bosch' series, the grizzled sleuth works with Detective Renee Ballard on a cold case involving a rapist/murderer. Both Harry and Renee have issues, but they're good partners. Enjoyable mystery. The book can be read as a standalone. 3.5 stars

This is Max Freeman #2. Max is an ex-cop with issues who lives in a shack in the swamp. These are really good reads, I don't understand why they're not more popular. Highly recommended.

I found the first one quite interesting. Looking forward to continuing the series.

In this addition to the series, private detective Jane Wheel returns to her hometown where a murder soon occurs. At the same time, a washed up comedian blows into town. The book can be read as a standalone. 3 stars

Not at all the Sherlock I have held in my mind since childhood.
As a show of respect for one of the few things I can still remember I will read another. There must have been something magical in the Holmes stories. This certainly was not it.
