The Reading Esquire | 2 comments I’m on page 2 and I already love Alyssa’s voice lol... will post again when I’m done

Erin | 1 comments Just started this one today! I’m excited to get into it

Cora Foerstner (corafoerstner) I just bought Dry. Will start it tonight. I haven't read anything by Neil Shusterman, but I've heard he's a great writer. I recently moved to Washington, but I'm from Southern California. There were times when we couldn't water the lawn and were asked to flush the toilet only when necessary. Colorado often bickered with us about our use of the Colorado River water. I'm interested to see what happens in this book.

Michelle | 5 comments New to this group, but I just started this one yesterday and I’m 75 pages in and I really like it so far. It’s been awhile since I read a dystopian and my first novel by this author too. I have a lot of his books on my list to read so this is definitely making them move higher on my tbr list.

Christina | 14 comments I read this book last month and I thought it was kind of a let down. I didn’t really think the characters were very well fleshed out, and the whole book just felt very juvenile for me. Also, there is a little plot twist towards the end of the book that I had seen coming from the very beginning. I guess I was just expecting something as good as Scythe, which is probably impossible, so I’m sad to say that this book disappointed me. I am interested in hearing about everyone else’s thoughts though

Cora Foerstner (corafoerstner) I'm finally reading the book. I was a little concerned because of a few comments I'd seen that the premise was too fantastic. I've only read few chapters, but I'm hooked.

I was born in LA and grew up in Southern California, living there most of my life. The premised works.

S. CA is a desert, and the movie Chinatown dealt with the underhanded way the water and power company built the aqueducts that move water from N. CA. to S. CA. There's been an ongoing feud between N. CA and Colorado and S. CA. since long before I was born. We take massive amounts of water from the Colorado River, and they resent it. There's always new negotiations.

Also, N. CA produces about 50% of the fruits and vegetables in the US. If water got bad enough, I can guarantee the state would close the aqueducts that take water from north to south.

I explain this so anyone who thinks this premise isn't realistic, it resonated for me. I've lived in cities that during droughts ask you to cut way, way back. Without water coming into S. CA, there wouldn't be enough water to sustain the population.

Melissa Mccabe Really enjoyed this book. Love that it was set in Southern California, I have lived here my entire life and made it that much more enjoyable. I love how well the characters are developed. There friendship is such a great part of the story.

Kristin Ward (kristin_ward_author) | 6 comments Good evening everyone!

If you enjoyed Dry and are interested in the impact of drought on a global scale please check out my books:
After the Green Withered and the sequel, Burden of Truth.

The seedlings for the idea of this book began six years ago as I wrote a graduate course in environmental education. I began to wonder what the world would look life if a drought ravaged the planet and water became the global currency. It’s a relevant read and I’d love to hear your thoughts if you delve into the two part series!

There’s a special edition on KU with both books as well as single editions.

This is one of my favourite books and author! I was really impressed at how much i wanted to drink whilst reading this. I also love the dynamics Götze characters and how their personalities clash, making the story all the more interesting! Would recommend to anyone!
