We welcome and promote the fact we have many authors as part of our group, we are proud of all our authors and enjoy their valued comments.

But we also enjoy your opinions as authors and also as readers.

But we ask that you place your advertising of your books in the right place.

in " Promote Your Book"

or " Free giveaway"

Janet very kindly placed a post in Announcements, but some authors are not reading all the posts, and just posting an advert for their books only.

I do understand the importance of promoting your book , but please just in the right place, and it's just great if you can read and post on other subjects and be part of this lovely group.

We will always support and be grateful for our great author membership.

Jennifer Haynie (jenniferhaynie) | 2 comments Sean, thank you for sharing. As a brand new reader of this group and an author, it's helpful to know where things go. I'll do my best to contribute. Having a full-time plus job from my writing usually results in my time being devoted to writing and family, but I'll do my best to be active. I'm looking forward to contributing more to this group.

Robert Rapoza | 30 comments I'm reading 'The Legacy Trust' by Pete Carter, a member of this group and it's been a great ride so far! I won't spoil it for others, but it's a great premise the author has developed and the story moves quickly.

James North (james_north) | 4 comments A big hello to all!

I'm the new kid on the block, so to speak. So this will undoubtedly be one of my longest, if not the longest post. I only recently joined the group. So to save you the time of going over to my profile, an abridged version of my biography--the stuff I can tell you--follows: I write political/spy thrillers, currently those comprising the Vanguard series. To date the series includes, Deep Deception and the Last Chameleon. I recently finished and handed to my agent the manuscript for Black Ice, the third book in the series. The fourth book is planned and I expect to start writing in the coming weeks. I also have a strong interest in historical fiction and have 2-3 projects in the works.

Now... the bit about me. I am a retired U.S. Navy intelligence officer, former consultant to the U.S. Government, political analyst, and university lecturer. I recently returned to the States after living many years in Europe. I love good historical and literary fiction and thrillers of course, but I have a penchant for thrillers with strong characters and dark humor sprinkled throughout.

I'm a bit of a nostalgic, so I enjoy most of the movies of the film noir genre. There are quite a few books I want to read and re-read, but unfortunately the more essential tasks in life keep getting in the way. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible, and to participating in discussions whenever time permits.

James

Hi Daniel. My sincerest apologies for not responding sooner. Unfortunately, your message arrived as I was in the throes of a move from Europe back to the U.S.

I am very pleased that you picked them up. I appreciate contact with other readers, including readers of my books when it applies. Joshua Hood I have read, but not Steven Konkoly. You must tell me what you think when you have read both as you mentioned a comparison. I look forward to hearing from you and I promise not to take so long to reply next time.

By the way. are you reading anything special for Halloween? I am seeking something novella length or perhaps a series of short stories. Any suggestions?

James

You know Amazon has a really good system where you can choose books by the length of time they take to read. So 30mins, 45 mins, 1 hour. Plus they have Kindle Singles. A lot of Independent writers also write in series of Novellas. Welcome. You sound like a busy and very interesting person, James.

message 32: by Amber (last edited Oct 17, 2015 09:33AM) (new)

Amber Martingale James: I suggest FOOL MOON, GRAVE PERIL, DEAD BEAT and COLD DAYS by Jim Butcher. They are the four Dresden Files novels set around Halloween. FOOL MOON and GRAVE PERIL are books 2 & 3 of the series, DEAD BEAT is #7 and COLD DAYS is #14.

David Parsons | 3 comments Hi I have just joined this group as a author , don't panic I won't mention my book here. I do enjoy a good phycological thriller but also one that is totally different. I write from the heart and try to take the reader on an emotional roller coaster. I want to get involved in discussions about why the reader thinks the author has developed various characters the way they have and as the plot thickens what does the reader think is going on inside the characters head.
My aim this year is to read twelve so one each month this is because I have also started writing my next book (my last one took 20months) so keeping very busy in my spare time.
Home is in Cornwall with my family
I look forward to getting to know you
David Parsons

You'll find lots of nice people here at this group. I'm a new author as well and have found some insightful posts from members. Good luck with book 2, wish I could say it's gets easier as you go, but that hasn't been my experience.

Michael | 9 comments Hello: I have recently joined this group after talking to fellow authors, and must say I'm very impressed. I love to discuss reading and writing with other like minded people. I have been writing crime novels for the past ten years, but I'm still very dedicated in researching and writing articles about real crime.

Home for me is Newcastle and that's were by books are set.
I look forward to getting to know you all!

message 42: by D.B. (new)

D.B. Woodling | 232 comments Thanks Sean and Janet for orchestrating a remarkable group. I hesitated to join Goodreads because I had heard some of the members can be (and I quote) quite snarky, the cynicism promoted rather than discouraged by apathetic moderators. To my knowledge, this has never been an issue with A Good Thriller.
Regarding self-promotion, I can't speak for the other authors, but occasionally, it takes a concentrated effort not to mention one's own novels within a discussion, when a comparison to the novel could greatly benefit the conversation. I'll continue to respect the rule, however, and if I ever slip-up, feel free to call me out.

We have posts where you can promote your book.

But we want some posts where we can see you as a reader rather than a author.

We have to remove posts, not so often now.

Where authors joined, posted in every thread/topic just mentioning their book, then never posted again.

We are lucky now to have many active author members who take part in the group.

Thanks for your kind comments D.B

Jason E. Fort (fortress23) | 154 comments Sean, if you see this - I would like to be more involved and active in the Group discussions (and of course promote my own work here and there, but I have seen how you suggested that people want author's opinions, too). Unfortunately I have had a hard time deciding how to go about it; which discussions or threads are the best place to start. I think I have introduced myself a couple times on various threads from different groups, but I just wanted to get your take on how to be involved without diving all the way in. (I really don't have time to do that)

Thanks, if you see this -
Jason

Joanna Elm | 24 comments Hi Everyone, Very excited to join this group, having joined as Goodreads author only a week or so ago. I pretty much knew this was the group for me when I scrolled down and saw discussion threads on tennis! I play every weekday morning, and think there is nothing better than to get the exercise done in the morning so you can enjoy writing and reading the rest of the day. Thanks for the guidance Sean. Look forward to contributing to discussions as soon as I get my bearings in this group.
