Beta (Annex, #1) Beta question

Beta Reader vs Fan (?) reader

Hi!
So I've been stalking this board for a few months now and used several beta readers (and done some beta reading as well).

I have a question/statement that goes on for a while and eventually becomes a question:
A lot of the beta readers seem to really be offering almost developmental editing services, which is awesome, but is there a lower level that is more on a fan level? The most useful information I've gotten was from 'in the moment' in-text comments as people are reading. The over arching information is great as well, but being able to see, on a line level when someone is thinking 'oh, I bet ____ is the kille,r' or whatever, is crazy helpful. Is that just a different style of beta reading? Or a totally different service?

I enjoy beta reading, but I'm not an editor. I do, however, love giving that 'in the moment' feedback whether it is 'I've had to re-read this three times because I don't under stand it' or 'you have totally hooked me with this character.' I'm just not sure if that is technically 'beta reading' based on what so many others are offering.

Any thoughts are appreciated!
